I've started to use the @dustsweeper bot on Steem. What does it do? Well, any post or comment having received upvotes less than $0.02 put together does not receive a payout at all. So, if your vote is worth even a tiny bit less than $0.02 and you're the only upvoter of that post or the post or comment you upvote fails to get any more than that, its author will get exactly nothing for it after the seven-day voting period. This is an anti-spam measure built into the blockchain. Giving those upvotes will still be drain on the voting power of those who have given the small upvotes. That voting power is totally wasted.
The solution is a bot called @dustsweeper. What it does is when you pay it STEEM or SBD, it will upvote your posts or comments whose payout is below the dust threshold to the exact degree necessary to lift them above the dust threshold. It does it on the 5th or the 6th day. The idea is that the users get exactly what they pay for, so this is not vote selling at all. The only thing you gain from using @dustsweeper is that the dust upvotes you get do not go to waste. It would be smart of everyone who makes got a significant number of comments that get small rewards to use the bot.

If I've understood the purpose of the service correctly, as much as you get back in rewards minus the dust votes that would otherwise be wasted. You only have to transfer STEEM or SBD to the bot and it will take care of the rest. It will even remind you when your balance is approaching a level too low to do any good.

I wondered if this kind of bot existed when I started out. It would've been really useful at the time but I will probably still start using it
Update: I did.
It seems to be another good option. I have a week using @minnowsupport and it works well. I do not have to pay anything and also has anti spam conditions.
