Steemit needs to adapt.. or say goodbye.

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Steemit has grown tremendously since the course of its inception, gaining rapid popularity among the entire world's population. I've seen new communities and friendships blossom in this space, as well as my fair share of negatives. One thing I've noticed since joining Steemit is the inequality of distribution.

Currently, the system favors those that initially invested thousands of dollars or have thousands of followers. This is great for those individuals who can then continue to milk the system, however all good things must come to an end.

This site relies on new users investing money into Steem in order for the price of Steem to increase, whether that's through actual fiat or additions such as SMT's. The platform needs new users in order to increase the demand of Steem. However, more and more new users are seeing that their hard earned posts are going to waste in favor of having the top users of this site hoard all the steem.

For example, those with the highest amount of Steem are gaining so many Steem daily just from the interest they're getting. New users spend months trying to even become noticed on this platform.

Steemit will not survive when users see that only the top 1% are getting rewards for posting sub par content. We need to invert the system so that it favors new users in the beginning so that they don't become discouraged and quit. While Steemit may have gained hundreds of thousands of new users, user retention has still been relatively low.

Steemit needs to adapt, or ultimately end up dying. There needs to be more equality on this platform, or at least a better way for new users to be seen and appreciated. In the grand Steem ecosystem, the system relied on having dolphins, whales, etc (those with high amounts of Steem Power) to actually manually curate good content by users (including new users!) however, with the introduction of voting bots - Steemit has become like the real outside world - controlled by greed. Most (not all) of high SP holders just sell their votes to voting bots in order to gain money.

It makes Steemit a place that isn't so much about sharing ideas and manually curating them, but just another money maker.

I think not much can be done. This is it. Whales are milking the system and use the small fishes with all the effort for creating a great post we get almost nothing. That is the platform. We can only carry on and do our best until we become also a greater fish or a whale.

You're right. Steemit has a big problem. Just the other day I wrote an article about the hazardous effect of upvote bots which are responsible for the real "reward pool rape". Ironically, the bots are ran by those who accuse haejin of the same...

Here is an article talking about what to do and I do agree with it. The big whales should delegate a good part of their SP to interesting users instead of pushing themselves rich, while pushing Steemit into its grave.

I also intend to create an account that seeks to collect as many votes for witness. Goal will be to pressure the witnesses into doing a better job and throw out the scammers. I just looked it up and you haven't voted any witnesses yet. It would be great if you could delegate your votes for witnesses to me aka the account. (I have to get it approved first.)

In case you don't know it, you can vote witnesses here or on the bottom select a proxy to whom you can delegate your votes.

I will follow you now.

very true, sadly it's beginning to feel like january 2018 was too late for me to join, if i don't want to pay hundreds for spammy reposts and stuff like that to get noticed (which i don't)

I completely agree. I have put a lot time and money into my steem posts; I'm sort of tired of seeing my work not get any real attention...then when I see one the individuals with a lot of power post a crappy pixelated image with a cell phone, not even write anything and make $400 steem it makes me mad.
