And @wang is not in the list, because it is super smart, it can count words of the content.

This is the main reason new authors are leaving, new readers are leaving, investors like me stopped buying.
Actually, i don't blame these robots, it's the rules need to be changed, it's simple, just remove the curation rewards, problem solved.

Sort:

The bots can't be carrying a whole lot of weight when there is over 90 votes and only $3 in payout. We do the sky is falling on Steemit or we can write and contribute.

I have found that writing legit comments, aka my actual thoughts, on a post carries more weight than any curating efforts at my level. I doubt I'm alone on that.

If you include the negative votes, and the bots like @wang that can count the words of the content, and those humans that only care about the rewards but not the quality, IT IS A LOT OF WEIGHT.
Speak out the problems is important, we have to face it. If we ignore the problems, it's like living in a dream or bury our head into sand.

What you are missing is that the bots performed poorly on that post and are losing their money to dilution. The reward ended up being $3 so the curation rewards were negligible (at most $0.75 total). The dumb bots will lose money and the smartest bots, or perhaps even for a time only humans, will make money. This is the market working, but because we are early in the game everyone including dumb bots is an early adopter and there is still a bit of easy money to be made. That will change as the system matures.

Hello laonie. This is were I come to the rescue (aka Robin Hood).

"The RobinHood whale is a community backed account that upvotes 10-20 quality posts of different authors daily with a 10 day grace period between same author upvoting. No single author can be upvoted more than once during the 10 day period, leaving room for other great authors that have had less exposure."

We are currently in alpha testing, if you would like more info join robinhood chat on steemit.chat or pm @repholder.

A bot can never outsmart a good manual curator. I would like to add that there are 10 curators behind @robinhoodwhale digging through the heaps of content available on Steem.

i guess those curators get paid.is curating really that profitable?hard to imagine it

Truth is that curation atm is the game only for those are vested, since those who aren't gain way more in just interests. Curation system is indeed flawed and should be probably removed. People will vote on what they like no matter what and there will be no upvoting for monetary profit only. I believe that 80% of votes right now are monetary motivated.
Curation is an essential part of this platform since it adds value to created content, but is shouldn't be monetary motivated since that way it doesn't focus on quality.

80% of votes right now are monetary motivated.
Yes you are right, if steemit will not transfer monetary-motivated into quality-motivated system, then surely it is doomed to FAIL!

I wouldn't necessarily say doomed, but it certainly creates something unhealthy. Almost everything right now in the world is made in the first built to create money, quality is later on the scale. I could agree that if we continue to go in that direction as a species we are doomed. Steemit is just a reflection of our world.

Trump will build a wall to keep out the bots!

But you've tried using some bots too?

Yes, it is, my bots rely on the curators that i trust to vote.

I'm sure @recursive would say they are relying on authors they trust.

That's of course most welcomed and healthy solution.

Steem will not FAIL ........ guaranteed

that's kind of an extreme solution that would change the very basis of steemit. but sure, curation rewards can be tweaked to the point where a bot would no longer find it profitable to upvote

This is defentaly a 2 side stick problem.
One one hand not everyone is an author, some only curate to promoute authors. (I myself have a few projects at alpha running to do it)
One the other hand i agree that bots need to be smart or human followed i.e. smooth, yourself, want, cheetah, recursive and so on.

which tags did you use? #marijuana?
