The reason the gains were so high the first 2 years is because steem started out at 100% inflation. Today if you wait 2 years you will get around 17%, basically the sum of each years inflation. So by powering up you just are immune to the effect of dillution by newly created steem (inflation). Self upvoting for visibility.
even less, you'll get will get just more than 10% of that 17% (it's more like 18.5%) .....go see my comment to markymark below.
