NEWSTEEM Is Awesome!
Greeting Steemians,
For some, but I guess we're not all going to benefit from it. My intuition was pretty keen on this, at least for the low level bottom feeders like myself, who've been here faithfully, loyally, for almost two fucking years. Working as a curator for multiple communities, trying to be uplifting to others who are trying to share their passions with the world, and contribute what they feel to be quality.
So now I am definitely molding this post in accordance to how much I have been making currently. In other words, it's going to be a shit post.
By now you've probably have figured out that the title of this post was a click bait amalgamation of sarcasm, jumbled into what you probably thought was genuine excitement. I hope I quelled that idea.
I've seen all these big accounts boasting manual curation, and I think that is great. Unfortunately, I have not been privy to any of these large accounts votes (with the exception of @curangel, thank you curangel.)
I can't help but to wonder why? Does my content suck? Have my efforts to be a positive impact on the community been in vain? Am I fucking crazy for not flipping burgers at McDonald's? (I guess I am, because I could make as much in a month there, as I've made over the almost two years I've been here.) What's even funnier, is I've invested my own money, through different avenues (personal trades, and @steemmonsters) and it about equals what my account is currently worth. So I guess that means I have literally made nothing over the past two years with the current value.. Awesome.. Let's just keep on doing this shall we?
What am I doing here? What am I building? I guess I will just continue on with this, because really, I've invested this much time and energy, so why not just keep on keeping on. I have a few nice people who offer support and kind words. Thanks to all of you. (I would list you all by name, but it's not worth my time for the shit rewards I am likely to receive on this post.)
I've been posting to @dtube, giving them 10% of my auto vote rewards for what? Dtube must think my content sucks, and that I am not worth some support. That is how I have felt about youtube forever, which is why all my videos on youtube are unlisted. Should I continue to upload to a platform that does not want to recognize users trying their best? A little support would be nice guys, at the very least, you could compensate me for the 10% of my auto support I'm giving you ,make it worth my while to support your platform, because I really do want to support it.. I really do not want to use outside services, but if you are going to take 10% and think I will keep posting to your platform with zero support from you, you have another thing coming entirely. I do not need to post to dtube to share my music, so I expect some damn support if I am to continue supporting your platform. And if you think my guitar videos suck, THEN TELL ME. Make it easy for me, let me down easy, because I do not want false hope, and I do not want to support platforms who don't care about their user base.
I'm well aware that I might get flagged into the abyss for saying these things, and I don't care. I do not care at this point. If you want to flag me for speaking my truth, then flag me, but it will not motivate me a single bit to continue my work here. I've been on the verge of quitting ever since this damn HF, but I feel bad about abandoning ship. I guess that means I'll ride it till the end... Whatever that means for me and the few who try their best to earn some rewards here.
I feel like I've said enough, and anymore time on this post will not be worth the rewards I might get. So I am done.
I'll end by saying my bhut jolokia was looking rough for a day, but it's coming back to life. I think it experienced over watering from the rain.
I'm still planning to do that ghost pepper challenge too, and hopefully by the time this happens, I'll be getting some support from dtube, because I would really love to continue supporting a platform which is Steem oriented.

I doubt anyone will flag you for saying this, though I am one of the ones who is doing better it bothers me that you and others are not.
As for dTube.. use YouTube and get 10% more. I am not a fan and not parley to their preference list either.
I can only give so much support out and pledge one a day I will try and raise up. Today it's you after reading this. If everyone did this, we might have less of a problem.

I am very appreciative that you took the time to read and support. I too struggle with trying to spread out my vote to support as many as I can. It's not easy at all. Those accounts with millions of SP really have no excuse though, because mere 1-5% votes from them are pretty substantial.
I will just keep on doing my best, creating content, and spreading my little vote to the others here who are trying hard.
If I give up and go work at McDonald's, I'll be working as a mindless drone who supports corporate enterprise, and I don't want to do it... Steem has the power to change the world. I just hope greed doesn't ruin it.

I guess I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I'm hopelessly addicted to Steem, and if this ship goes down, I'll be going with it. I think we will pull through though, my futuremind tells me things ;)

There are some questions regarding this topic that we should all be thinking about.
How long will it take the value (positive or negative) of HF21 to materialize into actual market cap?
If HF21 doubles the value of coins in the long run, but your coin reward is reduced by 25%, is this a good trade-off?
How many new curators have been created due to HF21, and how many of them are looking for content like yours but simply haven't discovered it yet?
How long will blogging and vlogging even be the main function of Steem? How long until someone realizes there's a much more useful application to be built here that allows users to work for money?
How long until the Steem economy gets changed again and we all forget this ever even happened? For example: what if curation was optional on a sliding scale?
How many years does Steem need to complete a full market cycle and capture fundamental gains rather than just riding the wave of speculation? (IMO 4 years)
We should also realize there are a million other questions and scenarios we should be asking ourselves that will never even cross our minds.
I empathize with your plight but I think we all have a tendency to be impatient and over-exaggerate the present.
I find your points to be very logical and level headed.
I really don't want to start calling out large accounts by name that curate, but have never once given me a vote, because it is their right to not like me, or think my content is shit. If I tag them in a post, to bitch about their lack of support, I think it's safe to assume I am more likely to get their downvote.
As a curator myself, I do believe in that quality is subjective. I currently curate for eSteem, prior I curated for OCD, and Helpie.(no longer because I took on too much for myself and had to make adjustments where I saw necessary) (just listing these, because I think it's important to state what I have been taught, and how I view curation). I vote things all the time that I don't really care for, because of that subjectivity topic, but really.. The intrinsic value. What drives intrinsic value on a social network? Encouraging users to stay and create, not discouraging them. That is my opinion.
So these giant accounts have a responsibility to protect what they believe in, by being fair to the user base. If my content sucks, perhaps they could tell me what I can do to attract their support, and we know it's easier to spread out support to the community with large stake, because small votes are quite substantial with these million SP accounts.
Please excuse the fact that I am not addressing each one of your bullet points, but I simply find them to be so logical that I can't exactly pose any argument or different perspective to them. I think you are spot on, and people like me tend to get impatient.
But man.. almost two years here, and I think most of the curators have seen my screen name at one point or another, so I don't know what I am doing wrong, and maybe I should just get off the damn steem train. One can only be patient for so long....
What is more likely, is I will not go anywhere, because I am too addicted to steem. I wonder how funny they think this is, that it's affecting people in a negative way. idgaf anymore.

I have a much different view of Steem as a programmer. The things you can do with JavaScript here are amazing and defy all logic. It can then be imported with ease directly into
htmla web page.We can make peer to peer gambling dapps. We can prove ownership of assets created in video games. We can decentralize the production of big projects.
Today, we have none of these things and all anyone sees is blogging/vlogging, curation, reward curves, etc. These things we think are the foundation of Steem today will be totally eclipsed by much more exciting projects moving forward.
Hang in there. In five years you might find yourself to being the big dog while all the newcomers are foraging for scraps.

Perhaps I should start learning programming. I'm quite a fan of Linux (Debian is my preferred) but I have always felt limited on Linux with no programming skills.
I've tried to build from the kernel up, and became quite tired of going through Ubuntu forums. Maybe I should take a more basic (building blocks) approach.
If I can't make shit blogging, perhaps a career choice change might be a good idea 😂
If Steem sees some gaming developments, I do think we would be headed in the right direction.
For example, what Enjin devs are creating seems quite amazing to me. That game 9 Lives Arena(trailer) makes me wish I could afford to build a gaming rig.
In the mean time, I could always start trying to learn programming and share my experience here.

But I'm also not that active atm. Got shit to do. Life sucks all energy out of me. Got none left for steem.
I still like the fundamental mechanics of this platform. Only the big ninja stake parasites seem like a problem..
It's upsetting that many many dedicated Steemians are earning even less than me. I see it, I try to spread out my tiny little vote to as many as I can. Generally speaking, I vote 25%, which is a couple of cents, and usually don't upvote comments 100% either, but today I don't give a damn.

The joke will be on the ones who have the power to make real change around here, when they are hodling millions of worthless tokens because the utility has not been met, and everyone has given up.

But I can't really complain because my posts aren't rocket science, and I didn't really put in a lot of effort to boost the community, except supporting my supporters as best I can. I am not the brightest light on the harbour and I am not the most hard working person around - bad combination. I do my best with what I know, what I have got. I plod on, slowly finding people who are interested in my posts. Tedious and demoralizing at times, but life goes on.
However, I do enjoy engaging and interacting with the community here, and as they say, sometimes it's not about the destination, it's how you enjoy the journey.

Yesterday was a rough day, but that is a normal part of human life, especially in today's world, where so many are struggling to find comfort and stability. Those of us who are free thinkers and don't want to work mindless jobs pay a price indeed.
The current world economics are not fair to the majority, and it would be naive to think Steem would be any different.
I find your posts meaningful and full of wisdom. I always learn something new when I visit your blog, and in my opinion, that makes you a valuable asset to not only Steem, but everyone you meet in this life.
I won't be going anywhere, I think everyone knows that though. I wonder sometimes if people place bets on when futuremind is going to start bitching.

You are too kind. I don't know if I am worthy of your kind words. I am just an average guy doing the best I can. I learned about life from quotes, which is why I am passionate about them. And I think/feel that people will benefit from them too. Hence, I am sharing them on Steem.

Newsteem may be really considered awesome by many. I'm still not sure what's my stand on it. I definetly see more quality posts in trending page (not that I even bother to check it often), however I also see many smaller stake users giving up on this platform.
Perhaps newsteem will be more like a "club for privillaged" and as such a it will flourish. Who knows.

I agree, despite my moments of negativity, if I really believed it was hopeless, I would already be gone. I think it could go either way, overall, I am optimistic, even though I wasn't in that moment.
Haha! Doesn't seem much different than oldsteem, and it's what my futuremind predicted, if not outwardly, I was sure thinking it.
Well I suppose it couldn't have been too shitty, judging by the support I received on it. That is interesting to think about really. Posts where I am positive, receive less support than posts where I am negative. Really makes you wonder why right? Is it that people find negativity amusing, or do these people who voted really want me to stay? I am choosing to believe the latter.
I'm not worried about the vote buddy, you've been very supportive and have helped me put some things in perspective with myself and others. Your kind words alone are worth more than any vote I could possibly receive on Steem.
Yes, but I am going to keep pushing forward, and will do so in a positive way. (even if it does seem to pay more to be negative) I think the world needs more positivity during this tumultuous time in the world. "If nothing changes, then nothing changes."

Well, this post seems to be doing decent enough lol.. I just try to look at steem like its in its infancy and we have weaning, teething, and all the not so fun realities of tech rearing to tackle.
Take that edicted approach, for me that's just learned via your reply what html stands for I can definitely see the reason in accepting nobody has really tapped the potential here. Maybe we never will, but the only way to guarantee not realising what's at stake here (pun intended) is by jumping ship..
I know right! lol. Makes you wonder, if people just like negativity, or they are genuinely trying to be supportive and want me to stay, idk, but I'm choosing to go with the latter.
Yeah, that's how I view it too, I just bug out a little sometimes.
Yeah I found that comment to be one of the most helpful comments here during that moment. I did appreciate them all, but the level headed logical approach was speaking my language and helped me calm down a bit.
I try to maintain the idea that value is relative to the market (among other factors which drive value), and of course that is more than an idea, it's purely factual, and we could be sitting on some very valuable currency with all kinds of uses in the future. That thought alone is enough to make me think twice about irrational moments. (doesn't mean I won't bug a little, but after the fact I think about how ridiculous I'm being.)
PS. Computer program languages are pretty cool man. It's easy to get lost in. I say anyone who is interested in programming should definitely check out those Raspberry Pi's. If you look up just how much that little chip is capable of, your mind might be a bit blown.

Yes man anytime, I'll look into this raspberry pi I'm looking to make a modest laptop or chromebook purchase soon.. Things are a bit tight for now so I steem on mobile style.. Sigh
Steem on mobile is rough. With a tight budget, I recommend always keeping your eye open for people who have crashed laptops laying around. You would be surprised how cheaply some people will let them go, because they are not willing to fix them,(or don't know how) and taking them to a repair shop can be damn near as pricey as buying a new one oftentimes. Many get new , and have junkers laying around. (at least around here.)
If you manage to find one, you could set up a Linux OS pretty easily (and Linux is free opensource software, unlike Windows which you would have to buy or pirate.), and run chrome, set up keychain, boom you have a steem machine. (Linux is also not very hard to operate. You just need to know some update commands, and a few others, which you can save in a note and paste them into the terminal.)
