Humans will find a way around whatever system is created. And if any system becomes too all-encompasing, it creates a massive opportunity for a competitor to gain market share simply by being an different option than the most popular platform.
I think you are missing the point here. If there are competitors, they most likely will mimic the voting responsible for the very success of the platform. That means the same possible issues Einar is talking about in this video and that is, will the success of this platform be paramount to a popularity contest where who we know is more important than the actual content. I think it's not the future - it already is the present. As you said people will verify your identity on facebook to check if you're trustworthy or not. In the US a credit score (a number you get based on your credit card history) will determine your ability to rent an apartment or buy a car. Some employers may also check it. Other than that I think it's real life pushed into the virtual world, where your reputation, social circles, emotional bonds, relationships etc. are represented with digits, because that's what the smallest constituent unit of the digital world is. You said that in the future everything may be about your social status online. It is already too much about social status and the society is already not genuine in real life. The extrapolation of the processes onto the virtual world is a natural turn of things, because of the development of technology, and it is not shocking to me that it is all going to be happening online. What is shocking to me are the processes themselves, so deeply ingrained in humans. Steemit and other social media only bring it all out. Myself, I basically grew up online and I am definitely addicted, but the outcome of it is that I actually value real life contacts much higher and enjoy them way more.
I agree with you about steemit becoming the new facebook and it is even more so, because you can actually affect what you present on your facebook account a posteriori, while everything you produce stays in the blockchain forever. This way it makes steemit a more rational and measurable tool for proving someone's identity, hireability or sanity... Not sure if it's a bad thing though - in the hyper busy world of information overload, when you don't get the chance to know the people you interact with along with their families and friends like we all used to even 20 years ago, now we need some sense of security that the internet provides us with. I think it's all a sign of the world and times we live in.

Your topic reminds me of an episode of tv show: The Orville Episode: 7 Majority Rule. That describes society ruled by socialmedia. People are being divided more and more. By social isolation. I believe that there was a good reason why late Steve Jobs didn't allow his children to use smart devices. He´s children went to technology free waldorf school. I will definitely watch the episode that you describe. I do believe that human brain can´t keep up. Because society seems to be mad. Today's technology has changed human social interactions in a big and wery negative way. One thing that worries me as a It specialist about the crypto currency our tecnolegy in general. Is that it works only in civilised society. Usually if something big happens.Like a big storm or natural disaster. The IT infrastrukture is the first to go down and the absolute last thing to be restored. So we will be dead meet if we keep depend only on digital electronics. Instead of each other. And i mean this in the quit literal sense. In short the dangers are very real. Technology itself is not bad but we should keep cool head use it responsibly. Everyone does not need smartphone. only business people technology professionals need it. A noder good rule is to think when buying a new digital electronics device ore slauson. Will it help me make real money in 3-5 years. 3-5 years are usually productive life expectancy of an IT solution such as a computer or a camera and so one.
I think Steemit is a bit different as it's more about the content and quality content. Unlike facebook that's all about appearances and social standing. On Steemit there are people who try to fake it and abuse it but the better content producers do tend to do well, while commenters can make a small profit. Fake commenters are pretty easy to discern from genuine ones.
So yes, some similarities, but Steemit provides good content, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. are just junk media.
