My Steemit Rant Continues

I've talked about how you shouldn't be able to buy Steem Power (aka trust). I've talked about how we should be using logarithmic soft caps on said trust. Now I'd like to talk about looking for proper voting distributions.

We expect voting distributions to look like a pyramid. For every whale that upvotes a post you would expect there to be many minnows and a few dolphins upvoting it as well. What happens if this is not the case? It could be an indicator of exploiting the rewards pool.

Stop whales from tooting their own horn.

I get the urge to ignore minnows; I want to network with whales and dolphins, because that's where the money is. There are also a lot of eyes on whale posts. It's easier to get followers by posting thoughtful remarks on a whale post than it is to write your own content.

A lot of people are doing this. This is a very centralizing mechanic of Steemit. It's really bad. You can take this theory right up to the top of the pyramid. Whales have a nice network of whales, and they just like each other's stuff to take the majority of the rewards pool.

Look for the proper distribution

We should think about not fully rewarding posts that are incredibly top heavy with whale upvotes. Even if a post had 10 whale votes and 100 minnow votes those could just be bots. If those minnow votes were all minimum value SP accounts it would be very suspicious. Further, it would not fulfill the concept of even distribution, because there were no 60 SP votes or 100 SP votes or 200 SP votes etc. An even distribution would look more like the picture above.

By employing mechanics like this one we can keep Steemit alive and decentralized for many years to come. Thanks for reading.
