I'm on my grind!

in #steem5 years ago

Welcome to the 89th weekly installment of my series on Steem income and growth!

Income on the Steem blockchain is generated by "investment" (the more currency you have, the more you earn) and by "work" (earning currency by contributing content that adds value). All my crypto holdings are in the STEEM currency. Now I'm working to earn more, by uploading unique valuable content to the blockchain.

Calculating weekly income

Considering income from accounts that my wife @MediKatie and I own, and group projects using our funds (currently @hempy & @girlsofgreen), here's the running tally:

In the last while, it has been even harder than usual to get upvotes in the topics I post often in (cannabis and economy/crypto). I see huge payouts in these categories all the time, but at times it feels I'm invisible, or that I didn't bribe the right insiders. I can't find anyone putting out as much high-quality content as I do, but I'm one of the lowest-paid content-creators around. One issue is probably that I don't get along with the "NewSteem" cult and I'm not part of their inner voting circle.

Aside from that, HF21's rules continue to make it tough for content-creators to bring in any rewards. The ongoing bear market for STEEM continues to keep the blockchain quiet, which means there's less money to go around. I also bought a few more tokens (a long term play) from my income this week. And I've pulled back from 3Speak in favour of BitChute, so I'm not getting income that way anymore. All told, my growth was anemic again this week.

Note: As mentioned before, MediKatie and I are phasing out use of all our team accounts except GirlsofGreen. Another was dropped from the tally this week, and the last will be dropped next week. They have almost no SP and were barely noticed anyway.

This post will probably put me over the line to 67 reputation (thank you), which makes me the 2100th most reputable Steemian. Of course, that can all change in an instant if a whale comes along and poops on me a few times, but luckily this blockchain is populated (mostly) by decent people!

Speaking of quality people, do you know my brother Disl Automatic? He's a revolutionary, conscious rapper, vegan and liberty activist, who puts out incredible music on digital platforms and his website GetBIGonem. His latest mixtape REVOLUTION just dropped, with 42 masterpieces of hip hop, FREE. Also for free download are 34 additional tracks which were previously released. Seriously some of the best music you've never heard! You'll be upset it took until now for you to find out about it, it's that good.

If you're on Flote, click here to check out my post about getting Disl involved in cryptos (by having him sign up for Flote)! Click the album cover below to head to Disl's site for the free mixtake and bonux tracks.

Enjoy! And thanks for reading.

New music is good for the grind. I like the new album, it's a nice Christmas present. It'll be fun to listen to it all advent. 21 days until solstice now :)

I hope we can get DISL Automatic into cryptos and alternative social media! His followers would be a good fit, too.

Things have been in a bit of a slump lately. I'm still enjoying creating content and interacting but the monetary return on investment is not very good. I'm still hopeful that things will turn around at some point and start booming again. I'm not sure what it will take though.

Hard work alone isn't enough, that much is now known for certain.
In any case, keep up the good work, and thanks for your support.

Many things have changed in just the past few months. The hardfork reward restructuring really mixed things up, partly for the good and partly for the bad.

I must say that incentivizing more curation can be good but not at the expense of small authors. They should have done it so the little guys get more of their reward and the bigger posts are the ones where curation is given more weight.

One day Steem will be back in the spotlight, until then we have to keep chugging along and building those small connections in between. Don't forget how important it is to go out and actually network with people by dropping comments, curating and sharing content. Without this we are all just shouting into the void.

I try to max out my curation, and comment all over the place, but you're right about resteeming. I should (selectively) look for the occasional high-quality post to resteem. I did that with my other accounts/projects more, but since I'm phasing them out, I'll increase how often I do it on DRutter.
I think the good and bad effects of the last HF are still settling out. It wasn't all roses as some people promised... some still won't admit it's not perfect. A lot of people lost a lot of money, you and I included, so we can understand how there are emotions and other factors getting involved.
Like you said, hang in there. Thanks for the vote!

As much as I think doing stuff for the ecosystem is good, I don't necessarily think you ought to re-steem on an account where you also produce a lot of your own content. It sort of dilutes your brand.

For example, while it would have tickled me personally to have you resteem one of MY posts, I don't think your other followers would have appreciated it. They come to your feed for YOU... and you do YOU very well.

Does that make any sense?

Yeah, I hear that. When I follow somebody and next thing I see is a bunch of off-topic resteems, I unfollow them. It's true, many of us (like myself) don't want cluttered feeds with a lot of stuff that doesn't interest us. When I resteem I try and keep it somewhat on topic, so my followers aren't blindsided by something totally foreign very often, if at all. Yet I also see the need to promote important ideas and information, and I have a small platform to be able to do so. If nobody resteemed anything.... that would be a loss. Selective resteeming seems to be key. Maybe ultra-selective! :)

Good point... selective re-steeming then. :D
