Is dlike helping plagiarism? Answers For Commonly Asked Questions

in #steem6 years ago

For last few days, many people asked if dlike is helping plagiarism on steem blockchain? I had to explain them the working pattern of dlike platform. Now, it is better to answer some basic questions about dlike.

What is plagiarism?

According to Wikipedia:

Plagiarism is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work.

What is dlike and how it works?

As you all know, dlike is a social bookmarking app where users can share useful links with their friends (followers) and family (loved-ones). It is just like reddit, Pinterest and Scoopit.

Being a social bookmarking app, it works just like any other social bookmarking site by crawling the given URL. dlike crawls to get meta-tags mentioned on that specific page and share it on the platform.

What are meta tags?

According to Wikipedia:

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe a page's content; the meta tags don't appear on the page itself, but only in the page's code. We all know tags from blog culture, and meta tags are more or less the same thing, little content descriptors that help tell search engines what a web page is about.

From the above definition, it is very obvious that Meta Tags are used by webmasters to describe any specific page and these are not part of page so it is very clear that if we get data from meta tags, it is not coming from the content of that page and anything that is not coming from content, can not be measured as copied or plagiarism.

So dlike is not helping any kind of plagiarism on steem blockchain nor it supports any such efforts. We never scrape data but crawl data from meta tags of the given URL and its the same practice all major search engines and social sharing sites follow.

Secondly, dlike always mentions "source of shared link" and it is directed to the origin of that specific URL.

What about images shared?

As we all know, using any image without the consent of the original owner is illegal. dlike strongly follow this. We always crawl images of given url from meta tags and never scrape from the page itself. Images present in meta tags are those which are provided by webmasters to describe that specific page or content so its a consent made from webmaster himself to explain what this page is about.

If there are no images in meta-tags, then dlike omits it. Again, dlike gives source of shared link to follow global guidelines of sharing any image from one source to other. For uploaded images through dlike platform, we give the source of the image as users steem profile so he is directly responsible for that image, whether he owns it or uploaded from some public source. In near future, we will be using IPFS for these uploaded images to give users more authority.

What efforts dlike is making to stop spamming on steem blockchain?

dlike is always committed to proof of brain. This is why we give more importance to comments on our platform. We have limited the number  of posts shared by any user to maximum 5 per day. Not only this, dlike has also implemented a user score mechanism which is purely based on progressions and decides maximum accepted payout cap for any post.

Any post shared on dlike platform has a cap of $3 which gradually increase with user score value and is yet fixed at maximum level of $10. This progression entirely depends on users contribution to proof of brain, means his efforts for commentary on dlike platform.

dlike is rewarding its users work in the form of upvote which is based on 70-30% ratio of comments to posts. This shows another commitment of dlike to improve proof of brain on steem blockchain.

In a nutshell, dlike is strictly against plagiarism and any such efforts and it follows core values of steem blockchain by ensuring more proof of brain.

I see the right intentions behind the team. We want to be a platform that welcomes users with different interest. At the same time, it's impossible to curve all abuse, and this was even detailed in the white paper.

I must admit, I was very skeptic in the very beginning, but I see tha the team is doing their share to make this platform a pleasant experience for Steemians.

Cheers

Thanks @meno for compliments!
Dlike is always committed to adapt good things which can improve whole lot of user experience on steem and our commitments are obvious from all the work we have done till now and surely more improvements to come!

About all those views in the start, I am happy to take those as a positive for dlike and those helped dlike a lot to improve.

Thanks for your valuable input :) Will love to hear from you!

I can’t figure out how to use it. I read your post here and on the website. How do I post a link? It seems like I have to give you posting rights. Is there another way?

dlike does not take any keys but uses steemconnect which is the most secure login in solution on steem blockchain

What are the task requirements for ambassadors? What are ambassadors required to do? What are more of the XP required on the Steem blockchain?

You can talk to team on discord for all details!

Cool, thanks!

Yes...agree with dlike..it will hlp steemit to prove wt is a genuine content

I just tried dlike for the first time. I enjoy sharing resources and articles of interest. I don't always want to bury them in an "oh yeah did you notice" paragraph in a ulog post or a post about my art etc. Sometimes they deserve a post of their own.

My only suggestion to improve the output is to cease auto-populating the description field and require a minimum of 25 words of original thought describing why the user believes the link is useful to fellow humans.

Thanks for a new and interesting way to interact with the platform.

I agree with this comment. I am using Dlike and think it can be a very valuable addition to ones blog - if used correctly. I am not o big fan of the links posted with zero comment from the poster. I would like to see some commentary on why the user has Liked the linked article.

That is a good suggestion to ask user why he want to share. We will work on this!
Thanks for your input!

:-) Sometimes we users just need a little inspiration to remind us to type our thoughts. We forget that not everything is self-evident.

Dlike is redefining the future of content output while eradicating plagiarism and bot promoted posts. Each user has to be rewarded by the "system" manually for good content rather than buying their way to the top of the pile.

This article really addressed some of my concerns about dlike, it is really important to uphold the long known principle of the steem blockchain which is proof of brain.
I think in my observation this has been able to address and explain in details what is the objective and goals of dlike on the blockchain.

Has dlike started rewarding its users yet!? when I go to DRanks it says "dranks will be starting soon" !?👍upped and resteemed for you!

We are already testing voting bot. As we are satisfied its working, dranks will be live. Very hopefully from this sunday! Thanks for resteem!

Sound good, thanks! and your very welcome!✌👍😀

It’s an important distinction to note... that when people choose to share a link or YouTube video, they’re not getting rewarded for creating the content, they’re instead getting rewarded for the act of sharing that content. It’s no different than earning curation rewards. Every aspect of participating in an “attention economy” like Steem should be rewarded. How much is entirely up to the voters.

I had no idea about your system of capping top level posts, but I like it! I think it does add some nice mitigation. I do think the focus on rewarding comments & interaction is key!

I could easily envision dLike implementing a type of system I’ve advocated for a while that I believe could be quite feasible. If people use dLike to share content from Steemit (or other Steem based front ends) could dLike determine the username of the original post and auto set a reward split to that author? This would effectively create an alternative re-Steem system that rewards the re-Steemer & content creator, and gives an “evergreen” revenue component to posts that are past the 7 day payout window. (Just a Thought I’ve shopped around in the past that could pair quite well with the dLike system perhaps)

Thanks for your valuable input! We have disabled the sharing of steemit posts on dlike so users may not spam system with old posts!
