RE: Smoke.Network Forks Steem Blockchain: Some Lessons We Can Learn From Forks!
Did they actually fork the chain or just the code used for Steem? ie. is it more like Bitcoin -> Litecoin (common code) or Bitcoin Cash (common code AND ledger history).
Does it matter?
If they'd genesys a chain i just be smaller and more handable initially for witnesses.
If they kept all the spam from steemit and forked at block X witness should start with huge machines thanks to our management...
If they are smart they just did a genesys, i run one for tests and can be run in a 286 from a blender, the difficult part is to provide the api.
But hey no witness in steem has been able to provide a proper one...
Not that there is much incentive here but well.. One might think it is our responsibility as witnesses to break the dependency on steemit incorporated.
I can see @ned and @dan singing:
STEEM If I ever...
It's the difference between all of us having accounts and balances there by default or not.
Not necessarily.
By default it is, which is what I said. Other work would have to be done to make it otherwise.
They actually forked the chain. It was clearly written in the White paper with a backlink to steem's gitub link. Initially they hosted it on the blockchain but later they decided to just fork it and create their own chain. It's not an SMT either!
The whitepaper seems to say the exact opposite, that they are starting with a fresh genesis block.
Same old steemit unfair initial mistakes... 300 millon tokens distributed between the initial scam erm miners... So you will always be a minor stake holder
From page 21 of Smoke White paper.
Ftr, I dunno why they are premining it. Perhaps the premined block will be given away as they stipulated.
This means they are forking the software not forking the blockchain.
