Was going though the White paper of the cannabis-inspired blockchain social platform nicknamed https://Smoke.io. Although I'm not a smoker neither I'm I remotely interested in picking up the habit. But I'm always interested in new Cryptocurrency opportunities especially when it's related to my beloved steem.

Smoke.Network is the organization behind the platform. According to them, they pointed out that they were inspired by Dan's creation of Steem to create something similar for those interested in puffing the clouds.

That wasn't the part that got my attention. What made me think hard was the fact that they forked the steem blockchain. I was wondering why they didn't then project it as an SMT but I quickly found out once I observed the additional changes they made.

It seems they have kept their ears on the ground about the suggestions that many users of our beloved steem have made. They decided to implement it in their new network- smoke.io.

We have come up with the core factors below which are in active development on our private test-net to build and improve upon the Steem code base to provide a more robust system that is geared towards rewarding behavior with a
net positive impact on a community network.

Let's see some of the things they may have gotten right;

1- Determining Vote Weight Based On Vests & User Authority

Some months ago, a Utopian moderator in the person of @Scipio made a very great treatise formulating that spam and abuse can easily be fought using what he nicknamed the User Authority Algorithm.

What does this mean to the lay man? Well, it's simple. It means that the propensity of a user to abuse the system or spam others is directly related to all those following him and those he's following. In essence a spammer is less likely to have a reputable individual following him.

Any long summary is that smoke implemented this factor into their voting algo. This means that the community is thus empowered to influence even high SP holders once they are reputable enough according to the UA algo.

2- 50/50 Curation Rewards:

In order to further incentivize curation, they edited the chain to Carter for a half and half curation versus author rewards. This means that people are properly motivated to actually look for good content rather than churn out content.

High Smoke Power holders who also have great UA may be able to benefit by curating even much more than posting. Of course Upvote bots will not work when theirs a higher incentive during curation.

3- Maintaining Just 2 Currencies

According to their White paper, they felt that the network was better off without an equivalent of SBD. They stated their bitterness unto the fact that SBD lost it's peg.

Their opinion is that whales are manipulating the price of SBD to suit themselves since they are receiving liquid steem/SBD while delegating to Upvote bots.

The 2 Currencies they maintain are Smoke and Smoke power!

4- 24 Hours Post Rewards Payout

According to those who have been here long enough, the previous algorithm before Hardfork 18 was 24hrs. Smoke network is adopting this as a variable with the specific point that it will incentivize evergreen (pun intended) content creation and curation on a daily basis.

I dunno whether it's better than the current 7days model though. Because everything will happen so fast that you may not have the time to edit posts.

Every Other Feature Is The Same.

Since the main platform will launch in August, 2018 they have already released a live testnet for users ho are enthusiatsic to see he it works.

I have already see some smokers over there. Everything works just like on the steem blockchain except for these changes which I mentioned already.

Whether these will eventually prove to be better than steem is another story. We all know how Practicals can be much more different from theories. Abusers will always find new ways to game a system. If such happens the onus is on the system to upgrade to dislodge such users.

Steem has a progressively growing user base which is soon to reach 1million. At the same time, it's obvious that competitors are also arising. Our spot is envious to many that's exactly why we must listen and upgrade!
