Dan Larimer is leaving Steem, it's time for me to power down.

in #steem8 years ago

I had briefly ended my power down specifically because of Dan Larimer's long term vision and faith in his ability to steer development. Now that he is leaving Steemit I no longer can know what will happen to Steem development from here.

So now I must power down. This looks like game over for Steem.

The news of Dan Larimer leaving Steem is here:  https://steemit.com/steem/@dan/today-i-submitted-my-resignation-to-steemit-inc

And Dan Larimer is powering down. https://steemdown.com/

You haven´t even heard the CEO´s statement on that - so yes, you cannot know...:)

Do you always leave when the founder of your company quits? I´ve never done that.

Agreed although this is sad and a shock to many of us it is not a reason to just abandon Steem/Steemit.

One person is not the entire organisation and never should be.

When it seemed that the Steem price was rising I had started a power down so I could have a little bit of Steem to play on the markets and hopefully increase my Stake.

As soon as I heard this news I cancelled my power down.

I don't know what the future holds but I don't want to contribute to pushing the price down.

Let us wait and see what happens.

I have supported Steemit so far and even invested about $12K of my own money (which would be worth significantly more now if I had just let it sit as bitcoins).

That may be peanuts to some people but it is a huge amount to me due to my health issues and not being able to work.

Anyway I will do all I can to keep supporting Steemit and Steem. Let's give it some time to let the dust settle.

Change and crisis can also lead to new opportunities.

Well said!

It is clear that Dan is a bit of a tortured soul. Many creative geniuses are.
I am no genius but I am considered in the art world as having some talent.
Over the years I have tried and developed several styles all to the frustration of my agents and collectors who want me to stick at one thing/style so that they can make money off my work. But if I am not creatively fulfilled then I must move on and try something else. I will always do that until I feel fulfilled. But that does not mean my previous work is any less worthy-full or is still loved. But I just had to move on. After all we are the captains fo our own souls.
I think it is the same for Dan.
He has an specific dream and he will not stop until he finds it. It may be he never does.
But that does not mean his previous work, such as Bitshares and now Steem, is any less valuable. Only today I heard a brilliant new coder saying how amazing Bitshares was. Steemit is just too fantastic to die. It is unique and is just going through growing pains.

Depends on who the founder is. Are you aware Dan Larimer is the lead developer behind Graphene which is the technology behind Steem? Without him then what can Steem do to continue to evolve?

Would you stay in Apple if Steve Jobs resigned after launching the first iPhone?

The question should be: would you stop using your iPhone after Steve Jobs resigned? We are not working for Steemit Inc (are you?), we are just using their product.

Without him then what can Steem do to continue to evolve?

That way you are discrediting the whole team of developers that have worked hard on steemit´s design during the past months.

I am just not a person that immediately gives up when a problem appears. I´d give these people a chance - today more than ever.

I may still use Steem but if the price of Steem goes so low that it's not even worth it anymore? I would say unless there is a long term vision I might not continue using Steem. I have to see a long term vision and Dan Larimer was really the guy with the long term vision.

So you believe Ned Scott doesn´t have that vision?

The future of Steem is on the web development end, which is not Dan's thing. He'll still be working on blockchain technology, and I'm sure he has already steered us enough. It is up to all of the stakeholders of Steem to steer this decentralised block.

Totally agree...we are the stakeholders and we are the one to come up and make steemit what we dream of when we joined. Steemit.com (.Inc) is only an interface of Steem Blockchain. If Steemit.com don't succeed, other entrepreneurs will come up and build the next facebook, linkedin, twitter, instagram on steem. more projects are on their way. Let's keep contributing with our data.
