RE: Incentives to Hold or Buy SteemPower (1) : Steem Cloud Storage

I think what most of these crypto storage coins don't realize is that 99.9% of people do not care about having decentralized storage, when a usb drive or memory stick does a better job

Sort:

Hi craig, people who upload their personal data to all social networks like you are currently doing with pictures of your wife and your kids, there is no need to have redundant copies of this data under own access control, because you have backups on the social networks. Then a usb drive is sufficient for data transfer.

But if you care more about privacy, you want to have multiple copies of your pictures/videos on different locations. Currently I deposit multiple harddrives on different locations and every time I visit one of these locations, I make a backup. In this scenario decentralised storage clouds are a much cheaper and user friendly option.

the only social network i use is steemit

A USB drive is certainly not a competing idea to cloud storage like Dropbox or Google Drive. While you might not care about the decentralization aspect, there certainly are many more than you who do. People can speculate about the value of these storage blockchain's tokens but in the end they will only be useful when there are people building enterprise size applications atop them. That is only really happening with respect to Ethereum and IPFS.

enterprise size applications atop them is a great use case, and by then decentralized storage will be a default blockchain feature, not something that is speculated on or worth trading

You say default feature like these things can just be updated. BTC blocks are full so badly that transactions don't go through, yet the protocol shows no signs of a simple, one-line update. This is why Ethereum is such a promising project, there is no need for many other chains when one can do everything better.

Well the Steem governance is unique and allows for very coordinated hardforks. And look at that storage URL, IPFS making a appearance again!!!

People will probably be more interested in decentralised storage, if the security issues with cloud storage becomes better known.AS for usb drives and memory sticks, they will be more expensive,as the decentralised storage would be able to push down costs by economies of scale. I'm constantly running out of storage space,so I need storage. And with decentralised storage, I have acess to my files wherever I go, and I can't lose it.

the laptop I use is the cheapest one I could buy, comes with 5gb free space, and I use a memory stick if I need more. Decentralized storage being worth money is crack pot idea, and can only thrive in the cryptocurrency bubble, but not for for long

There is a demand for it. Maybe by crackpots like me..and also by companies, who are already using cloud services, because it's simpler, and would prefer it to be decentralised, based on the security prblems with centralised cloud storage.

What. Are. You. Talking. About.
People are already building enterprise applications on decentralized storage. Not at all crack pot. Not sure why you call it a bubble. Burstcoin, now that is a bubble.

true, burstcoin is a bubble on it's own, just starting to blow up with a very long way to go if it pops
