I am not familiar with Bithumb but I think @ned's voice in Discord channels, and the listing of Dapps on sites like StateoftheDapps.com are two of the reasons why the price of Steem has increased.

StateoftheDapps.com and other sites (I.e. @dapp.com) increased the visibility of the Steem blockchain and improved the sentiment of active Steemians.
