Crowd Funded Mining Rig - Day 3/7 Report - Current Specs For The Rig

in #steem7 years ago

Howdy!

With over 97 SBD secured we're good to go to order essential PC hardware parts for the rig. But first some stats:

Investors:
@davedickeyyall : 25 SBD
@leongkhan : 20 SBD
@adasq : 10 SBD
@ainie.kashif : 10 SBD
@elautomatico : 10 SBD
@rexusmo : 9 SBD
@sames : 3,2 SBD
@wix : 2,717 SBD
@prhinodv : 2 SBD
@doodlebear : 1,7 SBD
@tipu : 1,2 SBD
@marshalllife : 1,2 SBD
@rayogundead 1 SBD

Total SBD collected: 97.917 SBD
Days to funding end: 4
SBD waiting for conversion: 20
SBD converted to fiat: 77 SBD
Fiat amount: 2628 PLN = 744.47 USD
SBD to Fiat conversion price: 1 SBD = 9.66 USD

OK, now some nerdy stuff ;) The rig listed below is already funded (enough SBD collected so far) and probably will be ordered today. The hardware will be bought on www.morele.net - one of the biggest PC hardware shop in Poland (you can check their youtube channel here)

Power Supply:
Corsair RM850X 850W - 6 x PCIe 8pin cables allow plugging up to 3 powerful GPUs
Shop link - price 587 PLN / 167 USD / 18.6 SBD

Motherboard:
Asus X370 Prime Pro - 30% cheaper than Asrock X370 Taichi, good VRM and overlocking capabilities
Shop link - price 679 PLN / 194 USD / 21.5 SBD

CPU:
AMD Ryzen 1600 - 12 threads compared to 16 in Ryzen 1700 but 30% cheaper and has the same amount of L3 cache which is important in Monero CPU mining.
Shop link - price 829 PLN / 237 USD / 26.3 SBD

GPU:
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 970 Windforce
Shop link - price 0 USD / 0 USD / 0 SBD
This one is my own GPU - I will put it into the rig together with the GF 1080. I have to check its power consumption but it should increase the profitability nevertheless :) It's current value (used one) is around 800 PLN / 228 USD / 25 SBD so I will add those 25 SBD to my investment if all agree.

RAM:
HyperX Fury DDR4, 8GB, 2666MHz - good compromise between speed and cost
Shop link - price 384 PLN / 109 USD / 12 SBD

Storage:
SSD Transcend 230S 128GB SATA3 - basic 128gb SSD drive.
Shop link - price 223 PLN / 63 USD / 7 SBD

Total Cost: 2703 PLN / 772 USD / 85 SBD - so the rig above is already funded :)

Next Goal: 5100 PLN / 1457 USD / 161 SBD - total cost of the rig + GeForce 1080

Thanks for the update.
I support you adding that 25 SBD to Your Investment.

Thanks for the update!
Do you have an estimation date for start minning?

Probably next week. We'll see how delivery works during holiday days.

You should probably wait another few days till after new year, because after Christmas the prices usually go down significantly. Although I don't know how that is with this specific hardware.

And since you're in Poland, do you have friends/relatives in Hungary by any chance? According to this site(table on the right) one KWh costs only 11 Cents there and in Bulgaria it's even just 9 Cents.

edit

thx for the update

Nope, sadly I dont know anyone from Hungary or Bulgaria.

As for the price drops - in my country it's usually few % if any :) even the "black friday" is more of a marketing thing than actual sales.

Your prices seem very high compared to what I payed to build a GPU miner few days ago. I built a 3 x RX 580 4GB rig for under $1000USD. https://steemit.com/mining/@chronogn/built-a-gpu-miner-gpu
Do you get cheap electricity? I don't see how you can get any profit unless you get cheap electric.

Thank you for the comment!:) Please consider this:

  • RX 580 has the same power consumption as GF 1080 (link)
  • GF 1080 makes +100% more profit (consuming the same amount of power) (check http://whattomine.com/)
  • GF 1080 cost only +64% more than GF 580 in my country (crypto fever drained the market from 480 and 580)
  • 4 GB GPU RAM is already not enough to mine some coins

In my opinion GF 1080 is much more profitable, especially taking the power consumption, although it's more expensive to get. Besides:

  • all prices include 23% VAT (tax in EU)
  • it's hard to compare prices for PC hardware in Asia and Europe (you lucky guys:D)
  • this rig also will be able to mine on CPU with profit (thank you AMD for ryzens)

And your rig is pretty sweet, hand made case :)

Hey, thanks for the reply!
I'm just trying to get more ideas for my next miner build. I might go NVIDIA build for my next miner just to see the difference. The reason I went with 580 was due to lower cost and return on investment being only 4.5months.
But if I am going with NVIDIA, I would probably go with 1070 or 1070ti.
What made you want to go with 1080 compared to 1070? Everywhere I look, I don't see good reviews on 1080 for mining.

Basically check whattimine.com :) Currently GF1080 gives +26% more profit than GF1070.
