Steem Leviathans...the Guardians of SteemsteemCreated with Sketch.

Let's imagine...

The present day Steem Whales have reached a consensus and decided to support a Steem Voting Power cap.  They have agreed to do this because the primary issue holding back viral adoption of Steem is the concentration of power and the use of extreme influence within the Steem Economy, primarily Steemit.

They have all agreed not to divest their primary accounts into multiple smaller accounts for the purpose of continuing to use what would amount to a similar level of influence.

In return they become Steem Leviathans, the Guardians of Steem, who's role and Steem Power can be used to protect and grow the Steem economy.  Other than a new, fantastic moniker, what else do they get?  Here are some ideas;

  • interest on their stake that ensures protection from Steem inflation...perhaps a touch more.
  • a Steem growth dividend, paid for by the Steemit account upon reaching certain Steem price targets.
  • the ability to lend steem power with a modest rate of interest (i'm somewhat wary of this one until a fully functioning, mature Steem Economy exists.)
  • the ability to gift Steem for use by other accounts for set period of time (like guilds where the guild benefits from the curation rewards that the additional Steem Power grants upon self-voting.)
  • a place in Steem History.....legacy, philanthropy, honor, generosity....take your pick, they are all worthy of recognition

There may be many other valid and valuable reasons that the whales might agree to a plan like this.  I suggest we think of them and discuss them.

What about new Steemians with deep pockets?  What if they do not find that aspiring to become a leviathan is appealing?  They may create multiple accounts and begin bot voting with vote trails, effectively deploying the same voting stake?

  1. we could look out for them and counter their votes with our leviathan powered steemcleaners or steemit secret police
  2. we could enhance account verification, limit the number of account that a single person can have, adjust what a new account can do depending time, reputation etc etc.

If the Steem Economy grows fast enough, the Steem price increase may make it difficult for anyone new to become a present-day Steem Whale and attempts to do so may be relatively easy to spot and counter.

I certainly don't have all the answer and if i'm honest, sorting something like this out seems like a considerable challenge.  Although Abit and Smooth's experiment had many painful issues, which we need to learn from, the results were inescapable.  The majority of whales worked and are still working together.  More importantly, more of the power of giving steem and where it goes is being felt by many many more Steemians.  This is where the future of Steem lies.  In motivating a greater and greater number of people to participate and feel this power.

We need to move quickly or someone else will learn from us and do it better.  Or new whales will increase the complexity of reaching consensus.

Feel the Steem Power!

What did Satoshi get? His massive quantity of Bitcoins became worth something.

Agreed. The reward is the growth of the platform, increased demand for Steem, and a subsequent rise in the price of Steem which will make them very wealthy.

They shouldn't need our pennies to realize that goal.

I'm already very wealthy. There is nothing else that I really want to buy. Steemit is a hobby to keep or increase my wealth. I would like to help Steemit step on the system (I mean Google).

My company used to bid for keywords that cost $20+ per click. How much do they pay per click? $0.25 if you are lucky. Yet the dweebs out there are producing content for google and just handing them the 1000% income for the use of their server.

Steemit is to Social what Bitcoin is to Banking!

I won the whale vote contest - watch out! Good things coming!

A magnificent reward indeed.

I am happy to vote my 10 % giving me 400 minnow votes per day, or 5% on each giving me 800 votes per day. Slamming $30 dollars down on one post kills Steemit. Especially 40 times per day.

I spent 10 hours straight last night, responding to every single comment on my most recent post. I looked at each person, I followed the good ones, I read their blogs, I upvoted their comments and responded personally to each one.

When I went to bed, I had made $7 per hour for my time and effort (Post showed $70)
When I woke up- I got a pay cut down to $3 per hour.

My post raised tons of positive reactions, a truly social experience for all 270 voters.

I like the way you roll sir. I think engagement is one of berniesanders/nextgencrypto accounts. I'm not sure even he knows why he flags.

Extreme influence is brutal and it is what causes the most problems. I like the sound of your approach and the engagement you generated

I am the antithesis of the posts that gripe about Steemit, generating hundreds of comments and rewards while destroying the platform (or at least making people look twice and run).

The plaza analogy...

You can be the Magician or the Flasher

Both get looked at. Both grab people's attention

One you pull your kids away from (bickering Steemit)

The other you stay, watch and enjoy (see my last post's comments)

looks nice. have you thought about selling the rights on this story to Marvel Comics? :D (just kidding.)

Hahahaha! You are a creative! Surely within your vivid imagination I have an ally?!

I would want to see that movie when Marvel makes one! I must say this was a good read my friend :)

I'm developing the full script for it as we speak ;) It's a tall tale of war, riches, unlimited power and sacrifice.

Definitely sounds like Steemit lol

interesting thoughts...

Thank you

Excellent work! Thanks .

Thank you.

I am still trying to fumble around and figure all of this out but it is cool to see that when people have ideas around here, they are able to bring them to the public and start a discussion.

Me too, me too. It is very special, I love it too. We can help get things done :)
