What makes you think that? There's no ability to privately message my friends (as far as I know), no way to get content only from certain users (as far as I know), and no type of "events" page or anything like that, which is what I use facebook for mostly. Maybe I haven't been able to open my mind enough to see where the Facebook - Steemit connection will overlap, but I'm much more convinced that Steemit will overtake Reddit before it overtakes Facebook

Chat is on the roadmap and follow button just appeared 2 days ago but I agree. This is not Facebook and never will be. Certain elements of it will but I see it more as an hybrid of wordpress.com blogging and reddit.

Yes I think at first it will be like Wp and Reddit, but then it's going to take on a new direction, hard to say what at this point.

I agree... But I think that it will take years.

Of course, after some time, people will move on from Steem as well... Such is the nature of things.

It is fun trying to imagine the future of Steem, I can't wait for that "didn't see that coming" innovation, which takes Steem to new levels!

Thanks Benjojo, maybe they will flee, but like I said, they won't come here, they'll go to a Facebook clone. They are much more likely to leave because they finally get fed up of Facebook's terms and conditions, surrounding private data.

You might well be right. I just hope that they demand more and try something new or they will get all the same problems.

They already are fleeing. Check the news from back in early April about the decline in Facebook post. Most of my friends have abandoned the platform as well.

Unless they live in a social bubble, whereby none of their friends use Facebook, they'll be back...

Like stories of Dr Livingstone's demise, tales of Facebook decline are greatly exaggerated. These stories are usually taken from the point of view of FB losing ad revenue. But they focus on the profits they didn't make instead of the ones they DID make. The simple fact is, is FB makes billions of dollars in advertising revenue every year; that doesn't sound like a failing model to me.

Unless they live in a social bubble

I know it's hard to believe, but we were able to get by socially just fine before Facebook existed. ;)

Hahaha, I know, I know, I remember!

The thing is though, in my current address book on my phone, about 80% of them will not answer phone calls or even texts, causing me to wonder if they really are my friends. But speak to these people on FB and they are all sweetness and light. So if I want to speak with them, I have to engage with FB.

It could just be me of course, maybe I smell or something :-)
