Do minnows write posts just for an upvote?
So here I am, pretty new to steem although I've been doing it daily for close to a month. I have put in the time to learn about the
platform, time to post and comment etc..
Sometimes I see purely motivational posts having to do with charity. I also see some whales post some pictures and get $100s of dollars for their upvote. I also see some minnows who put major effort into a post with maybe a $1.00 profit.
Yes I have always said the early bird gets the worm and whales deserve it. I do have a question though.
Why would I put hours into something when there is no benefit. A JOB is just under broke. Now I know I put up some junk at times, but I also know I put some time into my posts (like this one).
I think this issue will start to happen more and more if minnows join but the rewards stay small for a long period. Now don't get me wrong, I'm really going to give this at least 6 months to a year. I loved facebook so I already have more motivation to stay here.. but I left lotsa friends
behind. Real people that I know. Yes there are real people here, but I could imagine my "friends" on facebook upvoting and giving me a real penny for my thoughts.
If I have any whale friends here, your upvote is appreciated as it's basically a morale booster. It will give hope to minnows and whales alike.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!
bearbear613 out!
Very well written post my friend. Keep posting consistently and don't worry about the rewards so much. Building followers is the name of the game. If you build a following then the profits will come. Us minnows are still earl you adopters and could become whale sharks with time.
Resteemed to spread your post.
Upvoted because YOU are valuable.
Followed to see your future posts.
:)
Also well said ^^^ I use this for fun over everything else, it's just a special perk that we can get paid for our posts.
Keep building your follower base & keep it steemy 😎
wow thanks now that's the motivation I'm talking about. You are followed as well.
You're welcome. Thanks for the follow back. If minnows unite and resteem we can grow much faster with the network effect.
U can waste ur time on FB and twitter for $0 or make some beer money on here. Choice is yours don't be late.
lol let's get drunk togetha!! true true but you have to put in some time for posts here. A quick status update ain't gonna get me the beer.
Absolutely. You're among a lot of friends here. We've all felt this. All I can say at this point is that time, interaction, and some luck will get you there. I also think that Hard Fork 19 will be a boon, giving minnows a better chance to school to success. Hang in there. I'll be following.
thank you sir. Following as well. It's good can't wait to give back.
Never give up. Why, when the work is so enjoyable?
But... if you did have some friends join here and you just wrote and shared stuff with each other then, you wouldn't think of it as "writing a blog post to make some money", you would think of it as "chatting with friends" - and at the end of the month you may all have enough for a free dinner, or more, or much much more. Is FB giving them a free dinner?
I wrote this a couple of days ago:How to use Steemit to Just Connect with Your Friends. Might help.
Good Afternoon Good Sir @bearbear613 ! We are in the identical boat (each a month in, .058mvests - still not sure what those are!) I am trying to build my followers list to 200 by the 30 day mark so have about 3 days to get 25 more. I have tried to focus on embracing the posts I enjoy the most by commenting on them sincerely rather than risking 'over-posting' my own material that probably only interests me! You are fortunate to know some whales out there. I have also learned it's important to limit upvotes to about 20 per day as there is a portion of the reward calculation that averages all your votes. Not sure of any of this helps at all but keep the faith and keep up the good work - I think we are on the track to Steemit success and enjoyment! STEEM On -
Yes and thank you. I have just added to you to my following. It's gonna be pretty exciting knowing some minnows that made it to whale status. That's gonna mean something. When I wrote this post I totally forgot about curation and the past few days I have been commenting like mad without realizing the rewards. Hopefully I'll be your 200! ;)
with a growing community it is important to make a group I think, and this #redfish community could turn into a whale community soon! Keep on posting and we'll keep on voting!
I've been trying to keep things 'organic' and not pay too much attention to the $$$. It does give me incentive to comment and post original content - and put some time and effort into it. But if I calculated the time/steem ratio at this point, I would become discouraged.
Steemit is fun, that should be enough. :)
@ironshield
no need to leave facebook, just right click over the story you want to share ( copy link location ) and past it in whats on your mind ( facebook ) pops up complete with picture :-)
Then if you want to clean it up, just delete the link after its up, and write a message.
Hope this helps
Life is Good
Hi bearbear613. I hear what you are saying and it can be down heartening to put a lot of time and effort into a post for it to be all but ignored. I try to take the long-term view that the followers I have will grow in rep as I grow and our votes for each other's posts will, therefore, increase over time.
How about getting your Facebook friends over onto Steemit?
I WIlL bring them over.. however I want to show them a nice fat wallet! Sometimes the proof has to be in the pudding.
Have you seen @papa-pepper and his blog? For an example of someone who has succeeded on Steemit, he would be a good one to show. He has also done quite a few intro posts to Steemit as well.
I always thought he was an early adopter. Don't get me wrong he knows what he is doing... but I just assumed he is like "the elder first gen"
Ya, I suppose you could say that but he is still an example of what could be done - maybe not as fast but still possible. I accept that the mega amounts earned in the early days will never return but even so a few dollars for a post on Steemit is a lot better than nothing for a post on Facebook. Plus (fingers crossed) Steem will keep on its upward curve and our small investments in posting, commenting and voting will only increase in value.
It is still very early days on here and (again with fingers crossed!) those that jump in early will turn out big winners in the end.
As long as new people who join can gain the same success. If not, it would look like a pyramid scheme.
I can see how people may think that. Maybe this post by @kennykelly might help alleviate those worries. Post
I'm not a whale, I'm still a minnow. But it don't matter, I'm making it pretty good here with just give it some time and things will get better. I'll upvote and follow you.
Thanks for the support. You are followed as well my friend. Perhaps once we become whales together it will all fall into place. Maybe we are considered second generation. But the third gen is going to need the same motivation. I think if we can become whales it's important for the next gen to see it.
