Account creation is a significant degree of friction. On Ethereum or Stellar, both of which use account-based ledgers, you create an account just by transferring to it. Every wallet can do this with no friction whatsoever. (Stellar does have a 20 XLM minimum deposit for each active account similar to Steem, but there is no need to have an account to create an account or go through an intermediary).
