The Steem Fantasy Bundesliga - General Preview Part 3

The Bundesliga Steem League has been created and can now be joined. What you first need to do is go to https://fantasy.bundesliga.com and register an account, then you go to the "My Leagues" tab and scroll down til you find this:

There you can search for "Steem Bundesliga" and join the team, it is public but only Steemians with a reputation above 35 and who write their Team Name in the comment section of these posts up to Gameweek 2 will be eligible for rewards at the end of the season.

Remember to create your team, you have 9 hours left to do so! You will still be able to enter the league after the first gameweek but be at a disadvantage in points!

Mainz

Last year’s 14th place looks better than the actual season was, Mainz had to fight against declassification for a very long time. Especially the many goals the opponents could score were a huge problem, resulting in the third highest number of losses for all the league’s teams. With Moussa Niakhaté (defender) und Jean-Philippe Mateta (striker), two intersting french players have been signed in the summer, as well as a promising midfielder from Atletico Madrid, Pierre Kunde. On the loss side, Yoshinori Muto (Newcastle), Abdou Diallo (Dortmund) and Suat Serder (Schalke) hurt the most. Even though the losses are big, the new players were some of the biggest transfers ever made by Mainz, meaning the potential for a better placement than last season should be there. The first round of the cub was quite solid (3:1 against Aue), even though Moussa Niakhaté got an early red card. If the new players find together, I expect a slightly better result than last year with a solid finish at around rank 10.

FC Nuremberg

Going up to the Bundesliga from the second place in last year’s 2. Bundesliga, Nuremberg is seen as declassification-candidate number one by many spectators. Transfers have not been spectacular in Nuremberg, with zero Euros gained from players leaving and only 700,000 euros spent on new players, who are mainly young and possibly promising for the future. Coach Michael Koellner has proven that he is able to form a great team last year – something he will definitely need to repeat if he wants his team to have a slight chance to stay in the Bundesliga. The main good thing for the club could be the fact that after getting into a higher class, clubs often tend to be euphoric and player over their limits. The first round of the cup was won 2:1, which becomes a little bit less valuable if you mention the opponent, SV Linx from the fifth league. However, a win is a win – something Nuremberg will need to focus on in the Bundesliga. It doesn’t matter how you get points, in the fight against declassification it only matters that you get them. Definitely one of the most likely clubs to go into the second league.

RB Leipzig

With Nagelsmann becoming the new coach after the upcoming season, new and old coach Ralf Ragnick has the challenge to be a good coach for the season, while not losing his authority as a manager. Ragnick has proven to be a great leader for Leipzig in the past, so it will definitely not be impossible for him to repeat that. He stands for the project Leipzig and will do everything necessary for it to succeed.
The biggest loss in terms of players is of course Naby Keita who joined Liverpool, the biggest gain the signing of Nordi Mukiele a promising French defender coming from Montpellier. After last season, where Leipzig had to play both national and international contests for the same time, players will be more used to that this year, meaning they will probably adapt better. Additionally, the headcoach announced big rotations between the games. I think that Ragnick will push Leipuig to new heights again, making them a very dangerous competitor for the top ranks behind possible champion Bayern Munich.

Schalke 04

The second rank in last year’s season speaks for itself, Schalke is officially back amongst the top clubs in Germany. Domenico Tedesco, the coach who led Schalke into the Champions league, will have to deal with quite a different squad next year. With Leon Goretzka (Bayern), Max Meyer (Crystal Palace) and Thilo Kehrer (Paris), three strong players left the club. However, some promising new players could be signed as well, looking at Mark Uth, Salif Sane, Omar Mascarell and Suat Serdar for example. All come from other German clubs, meaning they should be fit in easily since they won’t have to adopt to a new country. The 2:0 in the cup against Schweinfurt might not have been glorious, but it was solid. And being solid is exactly what Tedesco will need from his team, nobody can expect Schalke to be glorious in all three competitions they are in (Bundesliga, Champions League and club). If they make good appearances in the CL, rank in the top three of the Bundesliga and come close to the finals in the cup, most people will be totally happy about it. Those things don’t sound unrealistic in my eyes; therefore, those are kind of the results I expect for Schalke.

VfB Stuttgart

Coming in at the seventh place of last season was definitely a pleasant surprise after the advancement to the highest league of Germany, especially considering that Stuttgart was the second-best team of the second half of the last season. Therefore, expectations might probably higher than last year, where staying the league was the primary goal. Coach Tayfun Korkut will have even more and better players available than last season, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Borna Sosa, Pablo Maffeo, Daniel Didavi and Gonzalo Castro are definitely all not bad for Stuttgart. With an even better squad then last year, a possible declassification should not be a topic in Stuttgart, a fight for the top ranks qualifying for the international tournaments seems way more realistic. Only really negative thing so far is the surprising 0:2 cup loss against third-tier club Hansa Rostock. But maybe this was exactly the wake-up call needed for a great Bundesliga season.

Werder Bremen

After placement on the solid midfield last year, Bremen will have to try to repeat that again this year. Bremen seems like the typical club too bad for the top and too good for declassification areas. With Claudio Pizarro back in Bremen again, at least some of the fans are happy anyways. Martin Harnik, Yuya Osako and Kevin Moehwald are other new options for coach Florian Kohfeldt, however key players Thomas Delaney and Zlatko Junuzovic are not available anymore. The 6:1 win against Worms in the cup looked promising, even though it is just a lower tier club. If Bremen finally should be able to be constant in the league, the first half of the table could be realistic. If not, the fans will get what they usually get form Bremen – a lot of ups and downs.

VFL Wolfsburg

One of the negative surprises of the last season was the fact that Wolfsburg had to fight in the relegation to stay in Germany’s highest league. Something that should not happen with the amount of money available for the club sponsored by Volkswagen. New faces in the management are there to make things better from now on. Even though the best scorer, Daniel Didavi, left the club, the offensive section looks more promising with the new strikers Daniel Ginczek and Wout Weghorst. In the cup it was already really close again, a 1:0 against lower tier club SV Elversberg was the bare minimum needed for advancement to the second round. If the club wants to live up to the huge expectations set by the sponsors and the management, the games need to be way better. I personally don’t think Wolfsburg will play for the top places, a solid position in the midfield seems most realistic to me.

Mainz

Der 14. Tabellenplatz der Vorsaison sieht besser aus, als es die Saison an sich war, fand sich Mainz doch sehr lange im Abstiegskampf wieder. Vor allem die vielen Gegentore machten dem Team sehr zu schaffen, was dazu führte, dass man am Ende der Saison die drittmeisten Gegentreffer auf dem Konto hatte. Mit Moussa Niakhaté (Verteidiger) und Jean-Philippe Mateta (Stürmer) konnten im Sommer zwei vielversprechenden Franzosen verpflichtet werden, genauso wie Mittelfeldspieler Pierre Kunde von Atletico Madrid. In punkto Abgänge schmerzen Yoshinori Muto (Newcastle), Abdou Diallo (Dortmund) und Suat Serder (Schalke) am meisten. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund dieser Abgänge konnte der Klub aber einige der größten Transfers der Vereinsgeschichte tätigen, was heißt, dass das Potential für eine bessere Platzierung als in der Vorsaison gegeben sein sollte. Mit einem 3:1 gegen Aue überstand Mainz die erste Cuprunde souverän – und das, obwohl Moussa Niakhaté früh mit einer roten Karte vom Platz musste. Finden die neuen Spieler gut zusammen, halte ich eine bessere Platzierung als im letzten Jahr für möglich, der Bereich um Rang 10 scheint nicht unrealistisch.

FC Nürnberg

Durch den zweiten Platz in der letztjährigen 2. Bundesliga, konnte sich der FC Nürnberg den Aufstieg in Deutschlands höchste Spielklasse sichern. Geht es nach der Meinung vieler, dann werden sich die Nürnberger dort aber nicht lange aufhalten und direkt wieder absteigen. Mit null Euro Transfereinnahmen und nur 700.000€ Transferausgaben verlief die Übertrittszeit alles andere als spektakulär, lediglich ein paar junge Talente wurden verpflichtet. Trainer Michael Köllner hat im letzten Jahr bewiesen, für ein gutes Teamgefüge sorgen zu können – eine Fähigkeit, die er auch heuer brauchen wird, will er mit seiner Mannschaft dem Abstieg entkommen. Ein möglicher Faktor für den Klassenverbleib könnte der psychologische Boost nach dem Aufstieg sein, der schon so einige Vereine über ihren Möglichkeiten spielen ließ. Im Cup siegte man zwar nur 2:1 gegen Fünftligist SV Linx, aber man gewann. Auch in der Bundesliga wird keiner fragen, wie Nürnberg gewinnt bzw. Punkte sammelt. Hauptsache sie tun es, mehr zählt im Abstiegskampf nicht. Für mich auf jeden Fall einer der Top-Abstiegskandidaten.

RB Leipzig

Da Julian Nagelsmann spätestens nach dieser Saison in Leipzig das Zepter übernimmt, muss Ralf Ragnick es in dieser Saison schaffen, ein guter Trainer zu sein, ohne seine Autorität auf Managementebene zu verlieren. Ragnick hat schon in der Vergangenheit bewiesen, ein guter Anführer für Leipzig sein zu können – warum sollte er es also nicht wieder schaffen?! Er steht für das Projekt Leipzig und würde (fast) alles für dessen Erfolg tun. In Punkto Transfers ist sicherlich Naby Keita, der zu Liverpool ging, der größte Verlust. Der vielversprechendste Neuzugang ist der französische Verteidiger Nordi Mukiele der von Montpellier kommt. Nachdem man im letzten Jahr mit der neuen Doppelbelastung durch die internationalen Spiele etwas überfordert war, sollten sich die Spieler in diesem Jahr besser darauf einstellen können. Außerdem plant Ragnick großzügige Rotationen zwischen den Spielen. Ich denke Leipzig wird unter der Führung von Ragnick wieder aufblühen und ein sehr starker Anwärter auf die besten Plätze hinter den Bayern werden.

Schalke 04

Der zweite Platz der Vorsaison spricht für sich selbst, Schalke ist offiziell zurück unter den deutschen Top-Klubs! Domenico Tedesco, der Trainer der Schalke in die Champions League führte, wird im nächsten Jahr mit einem stark veränderten Kader zurechtkommen müssen. Mit Leon Goretzka (Bayern), Max Meyer (Crystal Palace) und Thilo Kehrer (Paris) gibt es prominente Abgänge, auf der anderen Seite konnten auch einige vielversprechende Kräfte nach Schalke gelotst werden (Mark Uth, Salif Sane, Omar Mascarell, Suat Serdar, etc.). Alle diese Spieler kommen von anderen deutschen Klubs, was eine Integration etwas vereinfachen sollte, da sie sich nicht auf ein neues Land einstellen müssen. Der 2:0 Cupsieg gegen Schweinfurt war zwar nicht spektakulär, aber solide. Und genau solche soliden Spiele wird Schalke brauchen, speziell im Hinblick auf die Dreifachbelastung durch Bundesliga, Cup und Champions League. Mit einigen guten CL-Auftritten, einer Top-3 Platzierung in der Liga und einem Abschneiden nahe des Finales im Cup wären die meisten Leute wohl total zufrieden. Diese Resultate halte ich für absolut realistisch und erwarte diese sogar.

VfB Stuttgart

Der siebte Platz der Vorsaison war definitiv eine angenehme Überraschung für den letztjährigen Aufsteiger, bemerkenswerterweise war Stuttgart sogar die zweitbeste Frühjahrsmannschaft. Die Ziele dürften also in diesem Jahr etwas höhergesteckt sein, nicht zuletzt da Trainer Tayfun Korkut auch einen verbesserten Kader zur Verfügung haben wird. Marc-Oliver Kempf, Borna Sosa, Pablo Maffeo, Daniel Didavi und Gonzalo Castro erhöhen die Qualität und Breite in Stuttgart auf jeden Fall. Mit diesem Kader sollte also ein möglicher Abstieg kein Thema sein und stattdessen eher um die internationalen Startplätze in der oberen Tabellenhälfte gekämpft werden. Einziger Wehmutstropfen bisher ist das 0:2 Cupaus gegen Drittligist Hansa Rostock. Vielleicht war das aber auch genau der Weckruf, den das Team von Trainer Korkut gebraucht hat.

Werder Bremen

Nachdem man das letzte Jahr im soliden Mittelfeld beenden konnte, wird Bremen alles dafür tun, dies zu wiederholen. Bremen ist in meinen Augen der klassische Klub der zu gut für den Abstieg und zu schlecht für die Top-Ränge ist. Die Fans sind dem Klub dennoch stets treu und freuen sich sicherlich über die Rückkehr von Claudio Pizarro an die Weser. Mit Thomas Delaney und Zlatko Junuzovic haben zwar zwei Führungsspieler den Verein verlassen, Martin Harnik, Yuya Osako und Kevin Möhwald sind dafür neue Optionen, die sich Trainer Florian Kohfeldt bieten werden. Die erste Runde im Cup sah mit einem 6:1 gegen den niederklassigen Klub Worms auf jeden Fall schon einmal vielversprechend. Sollte es Bremen endlich einmal gelingen, ein bisschen konstanter zu sein, ist eine Platzierung in der oberen Tabellenhälfte sicherlich möglich. Bleibt man weiter die Wundertüte der Liga, muss man sich wohl des längeren mit dem Thema Abstiegsangst herumschlagen.

VFL Wolfsburg

Die Tatsache, dass sich der VFL Wolfsburg nur via Relegation in Deutschlands höchster Fußballliga halten konnte, war definitiv eine der negativen Überraschungen der Vorsaison. Mit einem Budget wie dem des von VW gesponserten Klubs sollte das eigentlich nicht vorkommen. Nun findet man aber vor allem auf Managementebene neue Gesichter, wovon sich die Verantwortlichen eine Trendwende erhoffen. Obwohl mit Daniel Didavi der beste Stürmer die Wölfe verlassen hat, sieht die Offensivsektion mit den Neuzugängen Daniel Ginczek und Wout Weghorst vielversprechend aus. Im Cup beschränkte man sich auf das Nötigste, das 1:0 gegen den niederklassigen SV Elversberg war das absolute Minimum um in die zweite Runde aufzusteigen. Will man den hohen Erwartungen von Sponsoren und Führungsebene genugtun, muss man definitiv mehr leisten und deutlich besser spielen. Persönlich glaube ich nicht an eine Topplatzierung der Wölfe und gehe eher von einem Platz im soliden Mittelfeld aus.
