Steem Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 3 Overview

This Overview has been written by @matinho!

Gameweek 3 was a “back to normal” gameweek with an average score of 50 points. The last two gameweek high scores are history and this gameweek the average score came closer two what we are used to. It was a gameweek where several so called “wrong players” got involved in the goals, as far as FPL managers are concerned anyway. Maybe it’s just a positive thing. Many teams pretends to be quite the same after two gameweeks and that also somehow makes the game less interesting. Now for example Richarlison (£6.8m), owned by 35 %, took a red card at Bournemouth and with a three match (two matches in PL) ban incoming FPL players will look elsewhere to find a replacement. Maybe a straight swap for his midfield colleague Walcott (£6.6m) comes into several players mind. Walcott has registered 2 goals and 1 assist in his three first matches with a total score of 22, third most among midfielders.

What did we learn from gameweek 3:

Never trust early kick-off games. Sergio Aguero (11.2) was transferred in by 665, 000 managers after his Gameweek 2 hat-trick but he didn’t deliver against a good looking Wolverhampton side in the 1-1 draw. For the Manchester City striker this was the second “blank” away from home this season and away games just not seems to suite him. Aguero hasn’t scored away from home since 13 December 2017. For me he does look like the best striker option out there. Though he didn’t score against Wolves he had four goal attempts and hitted the woodwork twice.

Nothing seems to stop the former Bolton and Sunderland defender Alonso (£6.7m) who got 2 assists against Newcastle in Chelsea’s 1-2 win. 35 points in three gameweeks and a third successive score of 11 points or more. He has now twice as many assists (four) as he managed in the whole of 2017/18 and is top FPL points-scorer. With 8 bonus points his also on top of bonus points.

Liverpool’s defence is solid and you can trust Salah (but not for bonus points). Last Christmas I never thought I would write LIVERPOOL’S DEFENSE and SOLID in the same sentence but Liverpool are yet to concede a goal this season and their defensive line with Alisson (5.5m), Alexander-Arnold (5.0m), Van Dijk (5.5m), Gomez (5.0m) and Robertson (6.1m) have already scored 100 points between them. You could say that the main reason for Liverpool’s solid defence is Van Dijk. At least something has happened since he joined in January. For example Liverpool have not conceded a single goal on Anfield since February and they have kept most clean sheets of all clubs since he joined.

I can hear whispers saying “Salah is not scoring enough points for his price tag”.The fact is that he has scored 25 points i 3 matches. This makes an average score of 8.33/match. In a whole season it makes 316 points (38x8.33). Not so bad, or at least okey I would say.

Watford and Pereyra. Watford is up there with the big ones. 9 points and third in the league. Pereyra (6.2m) looks tempting. 3 goals in as many matches and a total score of 26 points. The fact he has been involved in seven out of Watford’s last ten goals (6 goals, 1 Assist) is impressing. The only thing that puts me of is Watford’s upcoming fixtures. They play Spurs, United and Arsenal in their next four, though I don’t know if United and Arsenal really scares them.

Mitrovic (6.2m) is on fire. After his two goals and 1 assist this gameweek he could well be the most transferred in forward this week. His underlying stats looks really good and Fulham seems to score (also concede) goals. For me the Serbian also looks quite “fixture proof”. I can see him scoring goals against every team.

Manchester United-Spurs 0-3. Man Utd is a team in some kind of crisis. I only watched the first half of the game against Spurs and United looked really sharp with 5 new players in the starting eleven after their loss to Brighton. When I saw the final result in the morning I couldn’t believe it. That’s not “the” United I’m used to. This a new United with zero luck and with no self confidence and a manager that doesn’t want to be a Man Utd manager anymore. Lukaku should have scored but he once again showed he isn’t up there with the best strikers in the world. He isn’t clinical enough, like Kane (12.5m) who scored 1-0 with a superb header. Lucas Moura (7.1m) (the player I sold for Mkhitarian for this gameweek) made it 2-0 and 3-0 and scored 15 points.

At least Man United got the fixtures (Burnley (A), Watford (A), Wolves (H), West Ham (A), Newcastle (H)) to put things right.

The highest scoring team in our Steem Fantasy League this gameweek was “The Weeknd” with 84 points. Captaining Salah and putting faith in players like Mitrovic (16 point), Alonso (11 points), Pereyra (8 points), Bertrand (7 points) and Schurrle (6 points) paid off.

The overall leader “Sashank” has got a total score of 232 points, only one point in front off second place “Los jokers”. There’s 35 gameweeks left to play so much can happen but a good start is always a good start. Well done!

Played my wildcard but didn't do well.. 2 points below average

Richarlison got red carded and Agüero didn't deliver. It also doesn't help that Hamer got injured, Lössl was this week's best keeper.

Now the cheapest keeper in fantasy might be gone for good

And now I have an injured Tomkins and Richarlison who is suspended for 2 games

Well I am running way behind but I am catching up. At least that is what I do hope. My first week was bad with only 29 points, week 2 as better with 57 points and week 3 was a downer again with 38 points.
Lots of Belgian player are being kicked from my fantasy team. It went down from 12 to 10 and probably it could down to 7 or 8!
Will need a miracle to end the season in the top 10 :)

Got fucked over by captaining Aguero (nearly any other choice would've been better) and Hamer going off injured 13 minutes into the match. Also picking Azpilicueta over Alonso at the start of the season seems like a terrible mistake so far. Hopefully next week will be better and I can climb back into the top 5.
