Wondering why your account isn't growing? Get your influence out of the fucking bots and talk to the people still giving a fuck

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Stick to death of looking at Steem accounts who can cast nothing but dust votes because they've been talked into delegating out to a community/bot.

This is not the way.

Sort:

Rolling the dice to see what my swear word is. I'd upvote this 400 times if I could. But they'd all be dust, worthless bot votes, which I don't have at my disposal, nor should anyone else. Once HF20 hits and those dust votes are meaningless, we should see more of the pool redistributed to the reward pool for the votes that mean something.

I mean, we'll see ROI on bidbots go up, because as a percentage, they dish out more of the reward pool than any average user could ever hope to.

Outcome of getting rid of dust votes? You fix bot nets, but make the bid bots an even greater proportion of the reward economy.

This is not statistical analysis, only thinking out loud

I just wonder at what point they will kill their beloved ROI from locking up so much SP into bots that they can’t sell enough of it at a price that makes sense for what is left of this place.

An alternative needs to offered to the money men, I heard a grand idea this evening, but will let it play out in the hope the right people get there first.

I hope, but am not convinced. I'm sure we'll have some data soon enough, and then probably give it the 🤦🏻‍♂️ face.

Chickened out on the swear-a-thon,but if I must.... fucking-hell fire, what a bollocks

I saw ned talking about user authority recently. I wonder what will happen to vote selling if user authority is added. I think Steem will die if they don't do something about the spam and quality issues it is currently facing.

Do you have a link to this?

Vote selling tied to UA could be interesting, @scipio - any thoughts?

Someone is mad! 😂

But I totally agree.

Don't get mad, get Eve-n?

You're another who keeps your SP for your followers, good stuff!

Ahahah, that was a good one!

I don't really like the bot thingies so I don't want to delegate, I want to be in control of what my money does!

🙏🏼

Good for you!

You are so damn good at answering all the comments you get, I feel really tempted to keep dying conversations going on to harass you 😝

Well that is very kind of you :P

I do well with the top level ones but have been far to over-worked to continue down the threads at times. My fault yes I know, my content is just far too engaging :P

I have been lurking and you get an amazing response on most of your posts!

Makes me laugh and sad when I come across amazing content and I could have done something about. Expect the owner bidbotted it past the threshold the community I’m in can do anything about. Never will they know there an army of people out there looking to reward posts. There too busy in their own blogs crying themselves to sleep and only leaving to toss more coins into the bots. Which won’t make them happy either.

If they are a gamer and left there blogs heck they might have noticed I have a contest with 40 steem in prizes that is open for 2 weeks going on. Even better a dam community that gives a shit. Most never even click on the link they just say “thank you” when they get an upvote from the community. Ahh can’t help everyone if they can't help themselves first.

"Army" is being generous. There are what, 5k users that can cast a $1 vote?

Compared to how many that are left being active on this platform that is a lot.

40 STEEM! Damn I need to dust off the joystick!

Hehe. Next thing we know it will just be gaming blogs out of you!

If my net was better I'd be streeemimg for sure. BUT, with some SP in the bank to reward those checking in.

Oh shit! Good thing you mentioned your contest here because I might actually have an input on that @enjar!

Good thing you mentioned your contest

Great we look forward to seeing it. You have until September the 3rd at 4 PM Eastern Time (UTC -05:00) to get an entry in. We give people some time to make it something extra special and so they are not rushing to get something out.

I actually just realized I have two very important experiences from separate games and now I'm having a hard time of choosing which one to make into the contest entry. Arghh!

Ever since my first month on steemit I have revolved myself to the dark side, aka bot votes.

Since I got to my first year on steemit this week I am going to try getting out more lol. We will see how this goes ;)

Fair enough :)

It doesn't look like you've been blowing your posts out of the water though?

Have you kept 500/1000 SP in your account most of the time, so you can give something to your visitors?

I'm not dead against delegations or use of bots, tarazkp's post is an excellent expansion of my thoughts behind this short effort: https://steemit.com/steem/@tarazkp/thoughts-on-earnings-and-delegations-out

I do upvote comments however I have weak to poorly prepared posts so tend to get zero to one or two "real" views. There is like three real followers I have consistently given upvotes since they give me comments.

I think I just need to focus on content first By getting people's attention and posting stuff that they can relate to.

although what you say is on the ball, are you trying to compete with other shit posters or are you trying to lead by example :-) Some times I want to resort to shit posts too but this is not the way.

HAHAHA :D

I wouldn't recommend this approach no, but considering it's taken me 6+ hours to respond to the comments of the posts either side of this one, I'm taking this shit-post and rolling with it :P

Honestly I’m trying hard , I try to post everyday and it gets harder and harder . But I’m not gonna give up, I’ve always been here for the long run. Just waiting on fame to come to me one day

I don't know your account in detail, but at 67 you've had a fair share of visitors/votes. Hopefully you can reward those people in return without blowing dust at them 😊

I feel the same way. I go through spurts where I really believe in the community, then moments when I have to take a step back from the lack of interaction. There have been a few recent comments that have renewed my faith, so I am going to keep writing and keep commenting!

I wonder how difficult it would be to fork Steem into an antibot alternative platform where automation is used solely to serve the pltform and people rather than siphon back to one huge stakeholder. I've been thinking about the requirements for this.

One of the biggest line item would be to dissolve @freedom's stake into another account that will never power down (Will need to somehow lose the active key or otherwise render this possible) and be used solely as a guardian type of mod account.

Furthermore, I would like to adjust all paid votes to zero to help level the playing field between botters and nobotters.

I know it sounds crazy and it probably is. Must be that utopian authoritarian coming out again.

Actually, there are multiple platforms currently working on filling the void. If Steem is dead then something else will fill in this market.

Perhaps another token on Steem will disallow these type of bots in future?

Not sure if not owers/delegators will care though, and probably just keep going as they are - producing content on alts and boosting it.

Perhaps another token on Steem will disallow these type of bots in future?

One could only hope. The tricky part is how would it disallow the ones that take their bids off chain. It may not be possible to automate that part and would likely require a set of human eyes to discern

I think maybe converting @freedom's stake to an anti bid bot downvote account could be a good deterrence. Maybe have a committee that would review cases of alleged vote selling and employ punitive flags from said account.

But it would need to be clear that vote selling of any kind will not be tolerated. It's a rough idea but maybe worth exploring further.

Yeah the off-chain deals going to be tough to track - I think this will happen everywhere for a long time.

Nice idea for @freedom's account, presuming this account is Steemit incs? :)

What got you to looking at that sir? And if that's the case, it's pretty crappy. Communities shouldn't be doing that if they cared for their members. They should be above the dust threshold and only delegate enough that it doesn't put them back under the threshold. And that's if they want to delegate. I think certain people don't really understand it, and may be easy to be taken advantage of. For you to make a post about it, must mean that it is pretty regularly happening. Do you think there's an increase, or is it you never looked into it that much before? I'm curious about this one because it has huge potential to prevent growth in us little guys. It'd be nice, now that you have brought this up, if we weren't able to delegate until say 300 or 500 or higher. Just like we don't get a slider until 500. I don't know though, just my thoughts sir. Thanks for all you do as always.

I'm continually trying to vote above the dust threshold and it's battering my SP.

Not run any data on it, just tired of visiting year long Steemers I know have 1-2k SP and it out to a bot/comm. that guarantees them something each day. I'm sure that something could be more if they held their influence and could cast a meaningful vote on something they liked - hey, it might even mean a reciprocated vote, a comment, and a follow.

Yeah, I don't get it. I love talking to people and I want my vote to grow so much so I can help. I can't imagine getting up there where you guys are...after all the hard work and time, and then just delegating it out and not hanging out with people here. Seems a little silly to me. But, you'll always have me brother. ☺️ I'm not going anywhere but up. I love you friend, and I'm sorry it's chewing on you like this. I get it. But those of us that are truly here for "this place and all the great people", will stick around and we'll have even stronger bonds and better relationships. And be all the better for doing what's right. Please don't lose sight and remember there's always going to be a whole bunch of us here. You will always have my support and I hope your day ends on a high note sir.

Thanks John. I am miffed, but l shall be ok tomorrow and spend some time producing pie charts for those still doing their bit.

No but you do find the right people over time. If you are active on the site you can see the good people to interact with. Hopefully something will be done about the shit bots in the future.

I do, and support many on the auto. Have I found another?

Thats up to yourself really. I havent been posting much content with the summertime but that will change over winter again. I do still spend a lot of time browsing, commenting and voting and have found lots of great users that i like.

I see a mere 100 SP delegated of 1700 owned, meaning if you wish you can provide a vote that counts to a comment. 👍🏾

You say a mere 100sp. I say 6% of my total sp. And i do vote on comments. When people engage with my posts i always upvote any decent comments. If somebody gives a great reply to one of my comments i will upvote and if i like their content i upvote. Is that not the whole basis of sp, to show appreciation for engagement and content?

Also thats not to a bot, thats to actifit the fitness app running on the blockchain.

Yes I'm with you. It's 6% and so you still have the influence there to reward the best commentators. I appreciate this.

Thanks. I love the project that they are working on and can see the long term plan behind it. When i see all the interest and development going into actifit i know its a project i can support.

They have some of my SP too, good call!
