Coffee with Christian Palencia

I just got to know Christian Palencia (@cbppls) a few weeks ago through a meet up with @bitrocker2020 and I was drawn to his work as a singer songwriter. We finally managed to find the time to have coffee as everyone was busy over the festive season.

When I got to know he was a retired barista, I could only suggest the most hipster place in town for coffee - Artisan, TTDI. They serve up their unique blend of coffee and I love the the breakfast there, especially ‘pancake tampal’.

We sat down to catch up a bit and then I started digging his brain. If I’m not wrong he told me he has written more than 700 songs! I’ve yet to even hit double digits, but I’m definitely working on it.

He shared something very simple yet profound that he thinks can instantly up any songwriter’s game - “Bleed & Beauty”.

‘Bleed’ is to captures one attention by something drastic or exaggeration. He described it as a red paint spilled over a black and white painting, it’s the ‘bleed’ that really draws someone to look at the drawing longer.

Regarding ‘Beauty’ is to be more elaborate and metaphoric with my writing, When I describe a thing, a person, whatever it may be; I should attach my own emotions or description to it. It’s to let the world see things from my perspective.
