How do you find a relevant image for your post?

Does this sound familiar? Because I face this problem everyday.

I am not a professional photographer, so I do not have lots of incredible photos just sitting around waiting to be used in my Steemit posts. I have some nice photos, but sometimes they are relevant to my posts and sometimes they are not.

I need to find great photos and fast. Ah, the internet! Perfect. Problem solved.

So it seems that I can just get on the internet and find a great photo and use it. Right? WRONG!

IMPORTANT: Although it is rather easy and often tempting to find photos on the internet, copyrights are real. And if we mess with the wrong people we may get chewed up and spit out. Let's try to avoid that!

The key is finding photos and images that fall under CC0 Public Domain.

CC0 Public Domain Photos and images:

  • Are free for personal and commercial use.
  • Can be modified, copied, and distributed.
  • Need no permission or attribution (setting a link to the source).

FYI: Even though you do not have to attribute to CC0 Public domain photos from a legal perspective, you do need to attribute the photos on Steemit. Steemit has rules about attribution to maintain the integrity of the community and prevent plagarism. Keep your eyes open for an upcoming post about ways to attribute your photos to their source.

CC0 Public Domain photos and images may not be used in any offensive way towards identifiable people, unless they give their consent.

Although the rights of CC0 Public Domain photos and images have been released, it does not mean that people, logos, private property, etc. depicted in a photo or image have released their rights. Content in CC0 public domain photos may be protected by trademarks, publicity or privacy rights.

The following are two of my favorite websites that offer CC0 Public Domain photos and images:

Great stuff, didn't realize this. Glad I didn't make the mistake of just using a random image from google

It can be a costly mistake when you use someone's copyrighted image, especially when someone have the legal resources to follow up with the matter.

It is good to remember that as content creators we want other people to respect our work, so we should do our best to respect the work of others.
