I like it. I think. But other than making sure it's not a scammer shouldn't we just vote on the value of the post regardless of what the poster is doing? Some of us (like me) are here primarily to read, enjoy, comment, and curate. I like us. Some others are here to blog, share original content, and make money. They're cool too, I enjoy their stuff. Some others are going to 'play the game' of upvoting posts from 7's after X minutes and 8's after x/2 minutes to earn money pretending to curate. Not my thing but hey, not against the rules.
In other words unless there is bad behavior I'm going to upvote the things I like to read -- as a reward for sharing and an inducement for more of it.
As I said it's my opinion. And I do vote just because sometimes, as long as there isn't any plagerism and such. But I just can't bring myself to vote for someone who makes even $10+ per post and rarely upvotes comments and other posts.
I should have also added something in the post about supporting those that are supporting other users instead of taking their payouts and running. I just meant to highlight by supporting those that are redistributing and supporting others more posts can be discovered that may be getting lost. The posts discovered earn a little and feel more appreciated and are more likely to stick around.
This is great. I like this idea. I am new here sorry...and cannot seem to find a 'guide' anywhere on how to use Steemit. What does 'power down' mean...that someone is not upvoting? Many thanks
Steem Power is directly linked to your voting weight. The higher it is the more weight your vote is worth and potentially more money you award to someone else by upvoting. You power it up by converting Steem to Steem Power. I'm not sure how powering down affects vote weight, but if someone is in a constant state of powering down it signals to me that they are not really invested in the platform. They look like they're the take the money and run type of user.
I like it, I hit on a couple of these on one of my last blogs. Check that out if your interested. https://steemit.com/steemit/@moviefan/i-m-a-whale-and-don-t-upvote-whats-my-penalty-does-the-reputation-give-me-enough-guidance-am-i-helping-the-steemit-community-or
Thanks you had a good post and ideas on making it easier to see if users are supporting the each other.
