How To Get Ranked On The First Page Of Google - tips by @internetguy

in #steem-help7 years ago (edited)

How to get ranked on the first page of Google is the question every Steemian should ask themselves. On Steemit, within days your great post is buried for no one to find. However, get on the first page of Google and you live in immortality. People will be coming to your content for months, even years to come. I'm not going to give any lengthy ways to get on the first page, or any illegal ways either. Just things you can do in your Steemit posts today to get ranked on the first page.

How To Get Ranked On The First Page Of Google

The folowing are the steps needed to get decent search engine optimization that you can do now. I'll go over each of the steps below.

  1. Select a Keyword
  2. Put Keyword In The Title
  3. Put Keyword In The First Paragraph
  4. Put The Keyword In An Tag
  5. Put The Keyword In An Image
  6. Use The Keyword Several Times In Your Post
  7. Put The Keyword In A Link To Your Post
  8. Make The Keyword Bold

Select A Keyword

This is the word or term that people will use to search for you on Google. It can be one word or several words (called "long-tail" keywords). For example, I entered a photo contest here on Steemit and had to make a post and put a portrait in it. I chose a guitarist named Greg Leon and posted his portrait. I could use the keyword Greg Leon but it would be hard to rank for that, especially with celebrities. So I needed to be more specific and target the real audience, the people looking to see a portrait of Greg Leon. Not only do I target a relevant audience, it's easier to get on the first page.

Imagine if you were writing a post about a Harley Davidson jacket. Using the words Harley Davidson would show you way to many results and most all have nothing to do with a jacket. You need to be more specific and hit the right people.

A person looking to find Greg Leon's portrait would type in Greg Leon portrait. The results at the time of this writing would show. There are 12 million entries that match, none of the pictures are of the guitarist, but right there in #2 under Wikipedia is my post. Since it says "hair metal", searchers will instantly know it's the Greg Leon they are looking for.

Put Keyword In The Title

Choose one keyword for each post. Then put that keyword in the title of the post. If you are doing a post about "Fidget Spinners", you better put that term in your title.

Put Keyword In The First Paragraph

Notice in this post I'm using the keyword how to get ranked on the first page of Google. It's in my title, and if you look above, it's in the first paragraph of this post. There is still no guarantee it works, that's a pretty competitive keyword to rank for.

Put Keyword In A Tag

Google wants to see the keyword in a headline. To do that you take your keyword and put a in front of the keyword and an (notice a "/" is added in the second one) at the end of the keyword. Then put it in your post. You can see an example of this at the very beginning of this post. In big, bold letter, it says How To Get Ranked On First Page Of Google. That headline was coded using tags like this:

Put Keyword In An Image Tag

ALWAYS put an image in your post and put your keyword in the tag. Google will check images to see if they pertain to your keyword and if so, you get extra points. To put a keyword into an image, here is what your code would look like:

Use The Keyword Several Times In Your Post

Google wants to make sure your content is relevant. So use the keyword several times in your post. Count this post and see how many times I used the keyword "how to get ranked on first page of Google". Ooopss.. I just used it again. The secret is to do it in a way people don't notice the same words over and over, just like I did in the previous sentence. It must be used and read naturally.

Put The Keyword In A Link To Your Post

Google checks to see if other websites are referring to you as the expert. If so, you get ranked higher. To accomplish this on your own, simply take one of your other posts, and at the bottom of that post, put something like this:

Here is what the code would look like:

I just used the keyword ways to earn with steemit account in the text of that last link. Google will take the text in that link and rank my post with it. Go to Google right now and type in that keyword, "ways to earn with steemit account" and you will find my post is #2 on Google out of 940,000 entries (as of the time of this writing).

Make The Keyword Bold

To rank this article, I should make my keyword bold like this: How To Get Ranked On The First Page Of Google. To achieve this effect, add the following HTML or Markdown:

Those are all the steps you need on a basic level. The harder it is to rank, then the more work you will need to do. So keep it simple. Select keywords that use several words and you'll have better success. As always...
