RE: We are launching a new service called Steem-Forever

in #steem-forever5 years ago

I get that running servers and paying employees isn't free and I think a small %age is fair, but not 35% - more like 5% or less. If the idea is sound, then they should find investors who'll help pay the bills until the system returns a profit at a much smaller reward share.

Sort:

their cost is more like 0.0001 additional Steem per 1000 comment and upvote, they are running it off their profit server already ....it's just a freaking page, am not sure if you know dev, but this is totally super easy

...it's merely a script...and like a few lines......just straight steem api calls......make a comment, assign reward sharing, and upvote with your posting token

also the script would easily be a stick call function, meaning they don't even need a dedicated server or hardly any cpu resources, this is tiny bell at best, and what a terribly lame way to do it and expect to charge a premium....it's like the guy who just open the door to the restaurant wants 35% tip of your total meal when you tipping the waiter for full service at max 15%, and yeah...he will only open the backdoor, so you have to still walk all the way around the building and go through the basement and walk past the sticky toilets where he pees, then pay him 35% before you get into the dining area

look...if they are smart they will make it free and convince steemit inc and busy to put in a link into their platform (like blocktrades, gopack, steemchat) so they get free traffic and grow their business, how greedy do our witnesses running low cost business need to be?

in short 5% is still way too much....that's like averaging 50,000% return on investment with just 1K processing each day.....and we argue about how we don't reward the ecosystem to encourage content consumption.....ffs this is direct punishment of content appreciation, consumption

here's a better solution: Forever Green Architecture: Unlimited Content Creator Rewards

here is what we need todo (besides calling out the bullshit) to curation and other content reward hoggers: Radically Improving Curation and Rewarding Correct & Positive Ecosystem Behavior, Not Bad Behavior

i agree with the investment you put in, with re-occuring service based biz (much alike subscriptions) it's slow to initially recoup even if it's breakeven goal to help enrich the ecosystem for our own and mutual benefit before business goals

i've funded a server for 8 months with little return to run bots and scripts to cut down community volunteer time, and that's just automation, we put in a witness to help reduce partial cost (not even cover cost) and we don't even get any witness votes consistently to move forward, we were around 96 and now we're well over >115 because none of the volunteers nor myself have time in the last 2 months to seek support or promote our 100% community benefit witness {to my knowledge there is only 1 other like us that's Curie all other business, personal or community witnesses basically have private owner(s) and subject to their needs first not a community vote based leadership operation}

my point is i actually do understand, let me merely try to explain that the ongoing function of additional few lines and the non-thread needed operation adds next to no cost to existing overhead

my apologize for using the word profit, that was insensitive, i think it's fair that such fundamental function and impactful feature that's easy to implement not be treated so carelessly as a immediate profit grab benefit (imagine if Steemit Inc suddenly go from changing 0% to 35% if someone Re-Steem a post right when that function came out a few months after launching a primitive steemit.com....how far do you think they will get today).....think bigger implement it as a marketing benefit for your company

think win-win, even short to mid-term, i ask you to consider my points as well, i was tired when i wrote all these, i'm still tired now. Bottom line is you lose nothing running this now....might as well get as much foothold as you can

look we can all forget this...and nobody want to use it with a stigma hanging over this.....and Steemians can stay modestly selfish or get worst.....or we get a little better due to development leader like yours, you can make a big change immediately early on, it's such a small and low hanging fruit but it could really make steem-bounty even as a separate web-based apps linking away from Steemit or Busy....if you agree i can point out to you some great way to monetize this via traffic return and not immediate cash harvest like greedy whales and self upvoters who put themselves and their coin stacking first and their own Steem wallets last, do it right for the best reasons, and the results that will get you the most user and maximum support

You have a niche and you are ahead now, and since it's the idea that has the most value

If you did quit, another developer(s) will just fill the hole you left and take the market you developed, you know that

smartsteem and minnowbooster would love to have that innovation, everything is kinda based on opensource here even if the code is not, the idea and the leadership is recognize in bounty.....not more no less

i have lost excess of 30K investing, and I don't even have a business and site and brand to show for like you do.....and yes have made back plenty but not from Steem reward pool nor from Steemians, but with trade....we do what we must but not on a path towards lose-lose self-destruction

all i know is my investment instincts and decades of experience tells me if i withdraw all my Steem to Fiat or even Bitcoin i would probably deeply regret it as early as next 3-6 months and surely in next 12 months

but every Steem holder is a like a voting proxy share holder in the truest sense ...no not because we're proof of stake in architecture, but because our value is community driven, we all have to give greatly in these initial days

we are privileged to be part of this, so any abuse is self-abuse, way your decision carefully

you may not see it now, but this could be the great turning point and celebration for bounty and give you your next level of visibility

i'm repeating as i am interested in your success, and i assure you I'm not leading you on....but if you agree to give this as a gift to the ecosystem to run and adopt w/o penalizing generous Steemians and authors (both to your company's benefit as well as all Steemians) i can point out to you 3 immediate great way to monetize this traffic return and not just lead to immediate cash harvest....but the backing of Stats that will lead you to greater revenues and subscribers
