SteemIt Voting Extension Submitted to FIREFOX! 🦊
I created a Steemit.com extension that allows you to see your voting percentage, daily votes and percentage until your next rep point. You can read about it here.
I first created it for Chrome but had requests to add it to Firefox. It took a little bit of configuring and I finally got it submitted. It is currently number 149 in review (apparently Firefox is a little more detailed on what they allow) and hopefully it gets approved soon.
After adding it you will get the underlined features below on ANY Steemit profile page. 👇
If you are a Chrome user you can go ahead and install it from this link.
New Features?
Also, I wanted to use this post to ask for additional functionality that would be good to see in an extension like this. Are you mostly a Steemit.com user and would like to see more features on the site? Let me know and I will see what I can add it to this extension. 😎
what's this?
last I checked this is an extreme security risk
you seem like a good guy but I would feel better using it if it worked without reading my data, such as grabbing username from URL and using steemd for the rest. I actually have no idea how an alternative would work on a technical level but figured I should voice my concern. Nice job anyway, steem on ^_^
Good question!
So it is saying that through this extension, using Javascript, it is able to change things on the DOM. It is saying this because it is accessing that site and it is not using any keys and just the user name. It can only interact with the data that is on the current page you are using and in the manifest you tell Chrome what pages you can access. So there is no really sensitive information it can get UNLESS you clicked over to your settings and clicked "show private key" . At that point I assume someone could scrape and get that data but the extension itself just uses steemjs with your user name to query data.
You can open the dev tools and click over to Sources and see the source code of any extension you have installed including this one.
As with any software, you should always check it out first.
Thank you for the well made response, very informative, I'll look into this later. I appreciate you taking your time to clarify this and work on tools to expand steemit, glad to have you around, thanks again.

Love this! Been using it for a couple weeks now. Super helpful
Thanks @roberdurst10!
Nice! I'm a firefox (or waterfox) fan myself and will use.
Great! Hopefully it will get approved soon.
