I completed this painting a couple of days ago. Let's call this guy Jeff. Now, Jeff is a just a fictional character from my imagination. But somewhere in this world, someone like Jeff does exist. There are probably millions of someone like him out there. You probably know him. He is probably someone close to you, your brother, your friend, your son, your lover or spouse.

So who is Jeff?

Jeff is a very good looking guy. He attracts women like flies to a honeypot. Women want him. Men want to be like him. And Jeff, he is charming. He has charisma. Very well spoken and very successful in his field.

But Jeff is cold and aloof. Cold as ice.

He is narcissistic, self-centered, and expect much but give little in return. Women throw themselves at him, begging him to love them. He toys with their emotions, gives them gifts but never promises. But when they are hopelessly in love with him and become clingy, he got bored and tosses them aside. Sometimes he treated them to an expensive dinner, brought them to a luxurious trip somewhere, they had fun. And at the end of such romantic escapades, when the hopes swell in those poor women's heart, Jeff looked into their eyes and announced that the relationship is over.

Jeff conquers them.

He is cold and cruel.

But who is Jeff, really?

Jeff hates himself and he doesn't understand why he treats people coldly. There is an empty hole inside his soul and he is looking restlessly for someone who will fill him up. Someone who completes him. Yet deep inside he is in despair because he knew he would never find such person. He is lonely but strangely he is unable to commit to a relationship.

Jeff has always been alone.

He remembers his mom. A beautiful ice queen, just like Jeff. She was a single mother who was emotionally unavailable much of Jeff's childhood. To her mom, Jeff is just an excess baggage from her failed relationship in the past. The unwanted child born out of wedlock.

Jeff is suffering from the emotional deprivation. As a child there was no one to nurture him, empathize with him or protect him. His deprivation is so severe that the world is an emotional desert. He has no idea how to build a connection with anyone let alone building a long-lasting relationship.

Jeff is a little boy lost. Despite his impressive physical appearances and his achievements, those are just layers of a tough shell that shelters a hurting little boy who was rejected from birth.

Unlike the previous 3 paintings, this painting is inspired by this soulful song sang by Nikisha Reyes, So Cold (written by Ben Cocks).

I found that the lyrics is so relatable to this painting and Jeff's story.

The painting was painted using watercolors and graphite aquarelle pencils on watercolor paper.
