Of late, I’m awestruck with the regular launches of numerous feature-rich frontends on top of Steem blockchain. Every one of them is too tempting to ignore.

SteeFun - A New Social Platform On Steem

Today, I’m gonna talk about a recently launched platform by @steefun which takes Steeming to a new level. Akin to several popular social media platforms like Facebook & Instagram, it has got a very interactive and awesome looking website. Just like other social media, here you can make friends, send them messages; react to their posts with many emoticons or emojis. Currently adding a reaction with an emoji won’t take off any of your voting power and you can express yourself without making an effort for writing a whole comment. Upvotes are different than reactions. But unfortunately, they have plans to integrate reactions with Steem upvotes in the future.

There are many options to create a post, user is tempted to engage through many short posts. To make things easier, it has got over a dozen pre-defined formats to create your posts viz.
Meme, Video, Image, GIF, Audio, Personal Quiz, Trivia Quiz, Poll, Story, List, Countdown etc.
Further, if you are willing to create your own meme, you will see a number of pre-loaded editable templates to create a meme in a jiffy.

SteeFun website also supports embedding codes and you can also insert a video from several platforms by just inserting a link. Whether it’s a YouTube video or Facebook video or it’s Vimeo, Vine, Dailymotion, Twitter, Instagram, VidMe, Coub, Twitch, Vk or Odnoklassniki, you simply need to paste the video link or embed code and your video is ready to be published on Steem.

Similarly for audio you can paste a link or embed code from your Soundcloud or Mixcloud video and your post is ready to go.

There is also the quick drag & drop file inserting feature for images & GIFs. But currently files larger than 1 MB can't be uploaded. But they will soon switch to IPFS model and it may make it possible to host bigger files without compromising on speed.

Surprisingly, it also has an "Account Deletion" feature too which when used, warns us to delete all our created content. That is quite baffling as blockchain don’t offer any such feature then how could this app delete all that content posted on the blockchain. Probably it means that all that content will get disassociated with that account. So you won't be able to see any of your activity and earned points, friends etc. related to your account.

The SteeFun.com website works well on mobile devices too. And now they have a secured login option through using SteemConnect app integration. Many more features are expected to be released soon on this platform.

Here’s a little dampener. Just like many other apps, for maintaining and developing this platform further, the website take a 20% cut as a beneficiary from the post rewards. I’d have preferred a fixed per post fee or a subscription system instead. Today, there are several apps like dLive, bSteem, busy etc. which don’t charge a penny from the users and are providing excellent services. They have worked out some different model to keep the revenue inflow. That seems to be the way ahead.

But apps like SteeFun offering unique features have an edge and may win the hearts of users. Who cares for a small part of the reward when you can earn more rewards by creating a lot of posts with a little effort. More than that, the platform like SteeFun can promote true social interaction and closer bonding among users. Features like befriending users, enhanced interactions with the help of emojis and personal messaging can certainly help enhancing our social experience. There is also an inbuilt point system according to the user activity and features like Leaderboard, Ranks and Achievements make it much like some fun game. All these more than justify the small beneficiary share they have put on users posts. Let’s see what other interesting features they come up with.
