How Neds Delegated Power Is Used Part 2 - Steemit Business IntelligencesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #stats7 years ago

Following on from my post yesterday How Neds Delegated Power Is Used Part 1, today we are going to look at the voting habits of @nicolemoker, @surpassinggoogle for the 15 days before and after @neds generous power delegations

@surpassinggoogle is a steemain that is familiar to me. He is a witness (steemgigs ) and he runs the steem gigs community on discord.  I reached out to him when I joined steemit and he was immediate willing to help me.  This post is not about my personal opinion but the data, however personally from own experiences with @suprassinggoogle I can see why he would deserve this power.

High Level Overview

Pre Delegation Data

Post Delegation Data

High level Summary

There was an increase in the number of votes by 231% for @nicolemoker and 424% for @surpassinggoogle

Combined there has been a 375% increase in the number of Authors that have gained votes.

Voting power has been reduced from 99.43% to 17.79% for @nicolemoker and from 58.11% all the way down to 6.42%

As with the analysis made yesterday, it is truly amazing is the wealth shared by these two. In 15 days nearly $16K has been received by authors on Steemit.  We can see from the pre delegation chart, in the 15 days previous to the delegation this was just $223.

Looking at the 4 accounts now analysed (@nicolemoker, @surpassinggoogle, @htliao, @linuslee0216) @Surprassinggoogle is ahead with the number of votes cast since taking on this delegated power, however as he is using a reduced voting power weight  @htliao is ahead in terms of the value of wealth distributed.

Detailed Analysis

Great work, voted! And thank you for allowing me to translate this into Chinese and share it among #cn community. Here is the Chinese translation, thanks again! https://steemit.com/cn/@justyy/ned-sp-steemit-part-2

Great to see good content being translated into other languages for more of the Steemit community to access. =)

Thank you, nice post and interesting analysis, the post helps me how to better curate Steem users. I am actually quite new to Steem, so still in the learning process of curation. The SP will be more and more wisely used in the future. Generally, I think the delegation decision is very smart, which definitely benefits the whole Steemit community.

I have never delegated as I am pretty active. But basically delegation is giving your steem voting power to others for them to exercise? Does this have to occur manually each time the delegation is made or can it be on an automatic system where it's transferred every week or every time a quantity is drained? How prevalent is delegation as a percentage of total activity on Steemit.com for instance? ty

Delegation is done manually. Two ways to do it: 1. Vessel - GUI which makes everything easier. 2. Steemconnect. You can find detailed posts about both here on Steemit.

I have delegated some power to Minnow Support

I just saw this post, and checked out your first post. These analyses are great! I can't wait to see all of it put together!!

What BI tool are you using to create your network charts?

Great analysis as always. I fully understand surpassinggoogle with longevity, established network, and reach to the account, but nicole has only been on steemit about a month and had a handful of posts before having 400K SP dropped on her. The good thing is both seem to be doing a good job with it and fairly using the delegated SP, no abuse of upvoting their own comments or anything like that.

I was wondering too about the new accounts that received the delegation. Some questions came to mind such as is there a personal relationship? do they have other steemit accounts?

Not exactly. Ned looks at potential too among other things. He doesn't personal relationships with everyone. I can say that for a fact. I think data that will help more recent steemians understand and have an even better and blissful steemit experience, is data from the past. This data is so relevant and gives a better understanding of steemit as it is now. Plus much of the value created is done behind the scenes, on the fore however, its really limited info, that is why the past helps matters.

Awesome and thank you for joining in the conversation here @surpassinggoogle. Testimony that you engage with minnows and are willing to answer questions and be helpful.

I would agree, the data is limited and does not show the work going on behind the scenes. That is why I mentioned in the post your willingness to help me when i approached you :-)

Yes, i am here for you paulag. I am just trying to recover really, physically but i have you in mind. I will try my best to reach you in the DMs real soon.

I understand being busy @surpassinggoogle. I am shocked at how busy 'Steemit' has made me. Everyone wants to see something in the data. Requests are coming fast and furious. So please take your time because when I do get the chance to do some work with you, it will be awesome and everyone on steemit will enjoy it!

@surpassinggoogle - I wanted to ask a few questions about the recent delegations, maybe you have some insight on it.

Is it a way for Ned to expand Steemit's reach into the Asian markets? Is that why it seems to be weighted that way? It is something I see so much in the comments everywhere about the trending feed being dominated by "Asian language" posts, etc. even though many are fully translated to English too. Are they more of marketing groups rather than just individuals putting them together?

I am happy to see you commented on Paula's post and have been giving feedback.

Well, i don't think it has to do with preference. It may have to do more with potential and sometimes experiments. I am simply focusing on the Philippines and it is very much English-speaking here and i think the case here really has to do with need for growth, growing what's existing in this communties till it is self-sustaining. For other places, i wouldn't know the reason but i don't think it is very much an Asian preference. For China for instance, from what i can perceive with busy.org and sweetsssj, i know there can be factors e.g internet platforms like facebook etc being censored there and stealthily bringing steemit there works, like busy.org is out to create a platform similar to wechat to appeal to China. In general, why i mentioned the past, is becos many, especially recent steemians didn't know of this past and sometimes tend to speak of trending posts etc without knowing value that may have been created in the past or behind the scenes. There are many factors behind trending posts that aren't pronounced and we only have the trending posts to judge this value but my stance is very different. For instance, i don't know much you do behind the scenes. i dont even know how much your simple blogs have done in terms of promoting steemit and who knows, you may have brought in a thousand people by means of your blogs. I did join steemit organically through the search engines on seeing a steemit blog. Trending posts currently can also have factors for why they are there beyond content. In some cases, it can be becos of its potential to accomplish steemit growth. Currently, introduceyourself posts are trending and there was a time on steemit when #til posts were trending and ofcourse times when asian posts written in native languages. One major reason, why trending posts tend to have high amounts is "steemit growth", also being a social network containing humans, there will certainly be a human factor, like building connections. I normally don't leave comments like, i always prefer to get to know someone and dispense this kind of comment in the DMs, so it is not misconstrued cos for information as well, you have to discern if the other person is ready to receive info before dispensing it, so that info accomplishes its intended purpose. too more recently, people love to call people out in posts and stuff like that. So i am always behind the scenes, silently doing my #steemgigs community and helping in the dms. I wonder if this comment helps.

Yes thank you. It's always good to get a better understanding of how things work. Like you said, so much happens behind the scenes and I think that causes misunderstandings.

I do see how expanding into those markets that have censorship opens up a whole new potential for positive discussion and support for the people who live in those countries.

I have met some great people working on projects to support the people of the Philippines using STEEM as the engine for financial support. So that is a great opportunity we have here.

Thank you for your time and feedback. :-)

But we can see abuse of voting fot themselves. Google gave him $500 upvotes at least comparing to nondelegated amounts

I think you should tackle comments (comments i made) as that is where i do most of my work. This is awesome. It was always obvious you will go far and we will still do all earlier plans once i am fit. I am grateful. I saw the earlier version by @datageek. My weight isn't high as well because the quality of content in #philippines is still evolving. Also, i try maintain voting power at around 85 to 90 percent for quick recovery. Too, most of my delegation goes into funding steemit meetups, signups & events. Awesome job

Funny you should say that, i was at a Dublin meet up last night. My second one to attend. It is fantastic to see all these meet up happening and even more delighted to see that you contribute in funding them.

I believe that would be straight forward if you want to know the number of comments you made and compare it to others. Finding out the content of your comments would be the complex one which would require some high level text analytics. Would let @paulag check out this one

Not like i want to know or compare. It is not something i ever do as i am not in competition and will never be and this has been the case from my day one on steemit. gbenga, ehi, destiny, ogo, olu all know these aspects of me.
But if people take up these assignments be sure to go the distance cos you leave unanswered questions in people's minds that aren't ready for info and unanswered questions that even you can't answer and this is an advice to newer steemians. When you are still new to this, it is better to keep everything data but if you want to add viewpoints to the mix, be sure to go the distance, which is something you can't do in reality. There are many examples to this and where it has led to and this you can find in the past and even recently and normally, i would give these advice in the DMs, but i am deciding to leave it here this time. Cos i have seen a ton of this, even more established members and today, i saw one, that spark the need for me to give advice openly as your bro and paulag is sis.

Yeah there are literarily dozens of angles to check out when analysing data of this magnitude,it's a problem I just realised I have because I get overwhelmed just by the magnitude and then come up blank in the end. I guess that's why @paulag always puts at the end of each post that people can contact if they want any particular angle checked or rechecked.

Well, i believe you missed out on my point by a margin. We will talk in the DMs, so that i explain better

Awesome work! #bisteemit is the best place to observe how a social network in its nascent stages is performing.

One thing I question is Nicole's votes go to 2 of the other receivers of Ned's SP, Htliao & LinusLee. I know they may be friends, but then all of them are upvoting one another with Ned's SP.

Yes this is rather evident. i will be putting a post together at the end with a mash up summary so we will have a better picture then

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by paulag from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews/crimsonclad, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

Excellent analysis. I find data available on steemit overwhelming and come up blank most times when trying to find something to explore. Would probably wait for the next data challenge or just keep brainstorming lol. Can Power BI be run a PC with moderate specs ?

Yes it can be ran on any pc. Are you ready for training courses in Power BI because I have some of them for you too?
