Have you ever wondered when the best time of day to post is?

To get the best exposure for your posts you have to know your audience, and know when they are online. If they don't see your post then they can't vote on it! Well maybe they can on steemit...

Posts

This first graph shows, for the month of August, the number of posts for each day of the week by hour.

Posts Per Hour

Clearly the most activity is in the evening (Europen time) peaking around 4pm UTC.

Comments

This second graph shows, for the month of August, the number of comments for each day of the week by hour.

Comments Per Hour

This is a much flatter graph with a less pronounced pickup in activity in the evening. I guess people are on Steemit all day even when they are at work too.

Other Activity

Of course not everyone posts or comments. Some people vote. When does the most voting activity happen?

To get an idea of this I have plotted the number of votes for posts and comments separately. Anecdotally most votes happen within a fairly tight window around posting time (2 hours) for posts and probably much shorter for comments.
The time is the Post/Comment time not time of vote

Votes Per Hour

The votes on Posts seems to follow the pattern of the posts which suggests that it makes little difference, in terms of number of votes, when you post.

Looking at the same graph for comments is very interesting!!!

Comments Per Hour

The scale is off the charts, and there are clearly some very large outliers. These are the bots at work. Or people trying out voting bots on accounts.

When do you think the best time to post is to maximise your exposure?

Thank you for reading this. I write on Steemit about Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Travel and lots of random topics.

Many thanks to @arcange and steemsql for the data source for this post.

Very cool and great to know ! Thanks for the info!!💕👍💕👍

Great stuff as always. It seems you really have to strike while the iron is hot on Steemit or your post gets drowned in the feed. Can i ask is there a place when you can get a live view of this info? Or is this all extracted from the blockchain after the 7 day payout.

This is all extracted from the blockchain but it's fairly up to date. As far as i know it only lags by a few mins when you use the datasource steemsql. I usually work on data that lags a bit as it takes some time to process. I haven't come across a site with up to the minute live stats that i have found useful bit I'll let you know if i come across any.

Yes your right. But these tips not only for steemit but also all social networking platforms ....

Excellent post, I like how you back up your findings with data from SteemSQL. Usually for me, I just try to estimate a time when there should be a more people using Steemit which would be a time when North America, Europe, and Asia are still active.

Thank you. I like exploring the data, seeing where it leads. It does make for since pretty pictures :)

UTC - 4 = My time (EST). I'd have to "Steem" a post at noon to catch "peak time", but there's a lot more to it than just timing.

I think after a while once people came home from work. Some time after work they dedicate to the family, and at 20:00-23:00 and spend leisure time in Steemit

That is it. There are always people posting though. Its evening time somewhere in the world every minute of the day.

Four hours ago is apparently not the right time to post for me, haha.

I have found my best times to post, for votes at least, were early mornings and around noon, but that was mostly thanks to liberosist. Comments are a bit all over the place, although I've not really kept track of when I get more or less.

It can be hit and miss for me too.

I have found the same as you, early in the morning is seems to be the best time to post. Maybe people on the way to work. I never keep track of comments but I have found if I use the esteem app to comment I usually get at least 40 cents per comment.

That's a strange one. I wonder if everyone using esteem get 40 cents a comment, haha.

Very useful for many, upvoted and resteemed! Thank you for this.

Thanks for the resteem and upvote.

great analysis as always. There are actionable items in here

Thanks Paula.

The bots seem to be at work on comments not posts, for testing purposes at least.
