Scatter Wallet Makes Token Organization Easy!

I think the majority of people will agree: Cryptocurrency is intimidating. The first thing most people struggle with is understanding how it is created and why it exists. Once you move past that, you are then introduced to other "heavy" concepts such as tokens, transactions, smart contracts, private keys, and public keys.

Interacting with a blockchain like EOS can seem like it takes a degree in higher mathematics to accomplish anything.

Thankfully, Scatter tackles that problem head on by becoming "your key to the blockchain".

More than just a wallet, Scatter connects you to many of the top/emerging blockchains and networks. Confusing transactions with dapps become a thing of the past thanks to the easy to use interface that Scatter offers.

Dapps can be launched from right within the Scatter application removing the need for bookmarks or memorizing difficult web addresses.

While the majority of the dapps that Scatter can connect you to are on the EOS network, it also supports the Ethereum, Tron, Telos, and WORBLI networks.

One of the most exciting features of Scatter is a solution they call "bridge". Bridge tackles one of the biggest issues with mass adoption of cryptocurrencies: accessibility. Many traditional users have the desire to use dapps, but not the appropriate wallet or skill set to do so.

With bridge, they can login with a traditional account (phone number, email address, social account) and still enjoy the benefits of using the dapp. Scatter creates a custodial account on the blockchain that allows this interaction to happen. Your bridge account is global and works on all Scatter connected dapps, not just a single/specific one.

The majority of bridge accounts allow the user to control one key while Scatter controls the other key. The idea of bridge is to be a temporary connector until you feel comfortable enough to create your own Scatter account.

Current events have made it quite clear that traditional accounts are subject to hacking and breaches. Keeping that in mind, bridge has limitations on spending and holding, this ensures your funds cannot be wiped out should your social media or email login be compromised.

Scatter is open-source benefitting both developers and end users alike with constant updates and innovations.

There are six key features that make Scatter one of the top wallet dapps of 2019:

  • Integrated App List - As I mentioned, the majority of dapps that Scatter supports are on the EOS blockchain (120+). New ones are added each day, and Scatter's SDK allows developers to easily add their dapp from any of the supported platforms.

  • Token Exchange - According to their website, the creators of Scatter realized users needed a quick and easy way to exchange tokens. This lead them to integrate a token exchange into Scatter giving you the ability to avoid external exchanges for BTC, TUSD, EOS, ETH, TRX, and DAI swaps.

  • Stablecoins - As I mentioned in the introduction, cryptocurrency can be intimidating. A good portion of that intimidation can be attributed to the volatility of the markets. Scatter handles that as well by offering the "stabilize" feature. At any point you see the market start to turn, you can choose to "stabilize" and Scatter will swap your tokens for stablecoins of equal value. When things become more favorable you can swap back without having taken a significant loss.

  • RIDL - Scatter employs an impressive Reputation and Identity Layer(RIDL) ensuring you are not taken advantage of by nefarious dapps or exchanges. Reputations are assigned to entities (domains, blockchain addresses, public keys, dapps, apps, etc) giving the community members the ability to hold them accountable. This ensures a safe, trustworthy environment for all.

  • Asset Management - The user interface for Scatter is clean and informative giving you a great overview of all your holdings. This allows you to manage your assets easily without consuming all of your time.

  • Hardware Wallets - Scatter works with a variety of hardware wallets to ensure your accounts are as secure as possible.

scatter login

Getting started with Scatter is as simple as downloading the desktop application, installing it, and logging in, creating a new account, or recovering from a backup.

At this time, Scatter is only available for the Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems. There is a Scatter browser extension out there, but I am told it has been deprecated. I encourage you to avoid the extension or cease using it, there are many newer dapps that will only work with the updated desktop version.

I would venture a guess that a large number of users who interact with the EOS blockchain probably have used or are currently using Scatter. It is simply the best, most well recognized tool for making transactions on that blockchain. It surprises me that it is currently ranked at #905 over-all on State of the Dapps, especially given the solid roadmap they have and their ever-improving product.

My biggest issue with Scatter is the lack of a mobile app (aside from "bridge"), and that is the main reason I feel I can only give it four stars instead of five.

Great review @bozz, I have Scatter as well and you're review is completely on point i have to say ;)

Well, you recommended it to me :P

Haha, Thanks! I am glad you like it! It really does have a lot of great benefits.

Really a great review! I wasn't aware of it, but, I sure will be downloading and trying it out!

It seems to hit everything I need it for!

Thank you for being a supportive member of #SteemUSA!

Thanks, like I said, it is really geared towards EOS but they are adding new functionality all the time.

Yes, but, I appreciate the low down on it! ;)

@bozz

Great post my friend! I will agree... even having been on Steemit now since 2017... anything "crypto" to me seems, maybe not confusing per say but... scary? Bad enough all the robo-callers, smart system breeches, and debit/credit card scanners. This seems to be a genuine "all-in-one" wallet. I am going to ask of course... is this compatible with our beloved Steemit interactions?

Wonderfully done article my friend!

Unfortunately, no. Though it does support a variety of cryptocurrencies, you will find it really flexes its muscles when you are using it in conjunction with EOS related stuff. Thanks for the great comment!

@bozz

No worries... I hear a lot about this EOS... guess I will need to research. The latest thing I had dove into, was the MEWconnect wallet, after winning a contest from @dapp.com ... see what I mean here... Anyway, certainly appreciate the effort you put into this! Keep these coming... lots of new information on the horizon I bet!

MEW is pretty cool. I started using that before the EOS mainnet went live and they were just selling the ERC-20 tokens.

I've downloaded Scatter, but I haven't used it much. I might have to now. You make it sound really cool.

It is a pretty great tool.

Nice review... I'm still one of those who are using the extension instead of the desktop app.... tomorrow's job!

Thanks, yeah there are definitely some dapps that it just doesn't work with.

Great review @bozz !

I have recently done an attempt to install scatter after I wanted to so something on an EOS chain. But then I got distracted, and it never happened. Your review reminded me about that. It was just a silly game, so nothing important, so I forgot.

When I decide to try scatter, I will read this review again so I understand how it all works.

Cheers!

Sounds like a great idea! There are some fun and interesting games on the EOS chain. I just recently started playing EOS Knights on my phone.

Great review i was not aware of it, but it seems very useful to know about and use if you especially have EOS related crypto

Thanks for this great post and being an active member of @steemusa !tip
