Nigeria is a land filled with many in untapped natural resources and I think this extends to our tourism sector as well because it is not unusual to find Nigerians travelling out of the country to catch the sights and glamour of the European cities while we have beautiful places of note which can pass as international tourist center.

Either unpopular or deserted, I strongly believe that this places deserve special recognition . For this reason I have compiled Top 5 places you should visit as a tourist.

Top of my list is

1. Kajuru castle

This place holds some history about how a German architect exploited the kaduna terrain and how his sojourn finally led to this castle that holds the symbol and importance of how Europeans lived in the early 70's.

The castle alone can accommodate 12 persons at a time and is equipped with four dungeon rooms. The numerous towers with battlements also gives it a medieval look which makes it to stand out as a tourist attraction for ancient art lovers.

Although still a private asset, visitors are allowed to explore the castle. However booking has to be done for the entire castle or as a group. I highly recommend potential tourist to check this magnificent castle when thwy visit Nigeria.

1. Idanre Hills

The idanre hills holds a lot of historical importance for the people of akure metropolis in the southern part of Nigeria. However, the hill has been called by so many appellations due to the monumental events that was recorded to have occurred in the hills folklore. Top of this folklore is that the hill is called 'carter hill', named after a colonial governor who signed a peace treaty with the Oba(king) of idanre dated back to 1891.

Idanre hills is just 15km away from akure city and on a visit you will get to experience the journey of taking 667 steps to the top of the hill. It is already enlisted into UNESCO world heritage site proving it's viability on this list as one of the top tourist attraction sites in nigeria.

It is also imbued with a mini golf course to make it an all-round experience for potential visitors.

1. Ibeno Beach

The Ibeno beach is one of the clearest and natural stretch of sand you will find in the country. Named after Ibeno community and located in the south eastern part of the country.

Ibeno beach is just 30km away from Akwa Ibom. A visit there can make you enjoy the lustfulness of the blue sky, the cool breeze emanating from the Atlantic Ocean and the roaring wave of the water body.

Ibeno beach is one of the longest beach on the Atlantic coastline. The hospitable nature of the people added with the availability of other recreational and sporting activities makes it a worthy place to be.

1. Ngwo Pines Forest

The unflinching ambience of this place is perfect for tourist who will love to meditate and it has also attracted a lot of people for camping out or picnic hosting.

However, if you will love to visit, you should try to go with your camping materials such as mosquito repellant and net, mats and it's advisable to go with a friend.

It is located very close to the centre of enugu in enugu state, south eastern part of Nigeria.

1. Agodi Gardens

Located in the heart of Ibadan; the largest city in West Africa. Agodi garden was originally created in 1967 to serve as a recreational centre for the people of Ibadan.

Fortunately, the infamous ogunpa flood disaster brought some major changes to the design of the garden and now it is incorporated with a mini zoo, a channeled lake to ride boat and waterparks for it's visitors.

Agodi is relatively cheap and it is good for weekend hangouts and its very serene and lush green vegetation is good for hosting photo shoots, wedding shoots, concert amidst many interesting events.
