NBA: Luka Doncic is the debutant of the year - it was like a hurricane.
As many as 98 out of 100 voters indicated Luka Doncic as the best debutant of the last season. Slovenian is the only player alongside Oscar Robertson, who as rookie scored an average of at least 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
Doncic proved fairly quickly to all doubters who underestimated his achievements in Europe, that he is the future star of the NBA. In the season he won all the prizes for the best debutant of the month in the Western Conference, but such a high dominance in the vote is a small surprise.
Selected with the 3rd issue number of the Slovenian for the Rookie of the Year award, he competed primarily with Trae Young from Atlanta Hawks, who finished in the 2nd place. The third one was Deandre Ayton from Phoenix Suns.
Young, especially at the end of the season, showed himself very well and seemed to be more likely to threaten Doncic. Hawks point-guard finished the season with an average of 19.1 points and 8.1 assists.
Luka is only the second European who won the Rookie of the Year award. In 2002, this prize was won by Pau Gasol.
