Hazelnut trees that blooms - an early spring signsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #spring6 years ago (edited)

One of the first trees to bloom in Norway is hazel (Corylus avellana).
Already in February long before the leaves come on the hazel trees, we can see male catkins and female catkins on the trees.

Male catkins are abundant on the hazelnut trees. They are long and yellow and have plenty of pollen, and then they hang down on the branches.

There are less female catkins; they are smaller and have a sharp red colour. Opposite to the male catkins, the female catkins are often facing upwards on the twigs.
Later in the year, from the female catkins, it is the red we look at the pictures that grow to become hazelnuts.

I'm always happy when I can see the hazel-catkins, which are one of the earliest spring signs. They give us the promise that spring is coming.

Hazelnut is a tree that has both female and male catkins on the same tree. On other trees, male and female catkins can be on different trees.

The image series shows how the flowers of the hazelnut trees look likes.

I also like to watch the early spring as the first buds on the trees, leaves and earrings.

You are a very attentive photographer who notices all the changes in nature!

Thank you very much for the beautiful and clear macro photography, dear @Siggjo

Thank you for the comment about the macro photo of the catkins of the hazelnut tree @ Singa
Yes, I like to take pictures of phenomena in nature.

Hazelnuts do not grow in our area, we have a widespread walnut, but the inflorescences are very similar. In Moldova, it is also one of the signs of the onset of spring. I can safely say that the whole of Moldova is planted with walnut trees. But. you know, as happened in childhood, you have a walnut, but, you want hazelnuts, or almond))) It is difficult to please the child. I am very pleased, Dear @Siggjo, that spring has come to your edges! Excellent macro shots, I really love to watch the small details that are hidden behind the outer shell, or, they are too small, and we just pass by them.

Hazelwood with hazelnuts are the ones that are common in Norway @Barski
I know that walnuts have been planted in some parks and gardens. They become large and beautiful trees, and I have seen both flowering and green nuts forming. Nevertheless, I have not found walnuts that have grown ripe in Western Norway.
The walnuts need long and hot summer, so maybe they mature in the best parts of our country in hot summers.
Otherwise, I like both walnuts, hazelnuts and walnuts. They are tasty, healthy and rich in energy.
