  • Robert Lewandowski has scored 11 out of Bayern Munich’s 18 goals in all competitions this season.
  • Lewandowski ties 51-year old record after scoring nine times in the first five games.
  • Bayern will head into Matchday 6 in at least third place and second at best, following the victory.
  • Coutinho’s performance proves he may just be worth the €120 million buy-out clause.
  • Coutinho became just the 9th footballer to score in each of Europe’s top four leagues – La Liga, Premier League, Serie A and the Bundesliga

There’s no better way to celebrate the first day of Oktoberfest than Bayern Munich beating Koln 4-0 in a battle between Germany’s third and fourth biggest cities.

The win takes Bayern up to 2nd place in the Bundesliga and they’ll finish the week in 3rd place at worst if Dortmund win their game. The loss leaves Koln in 16th and flirting with relegation.

After a shaky first half, Bayern ran away with the game in the second half scoring three goals. Lewandowski scored a brace, Coutinho converted a penalty, assisted Perisic’s goal and his lead up play lead to Lewandowski’s first.

Lewandowski’s brace means he has now netted a record equaling nine times in the first five games, a 51-year old record he now shares with Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Peter Mayer.

Coutinho’s magical performance was even better and if he keeps performing on that level Bayern will have no issue triggering the €120 million buy-out clause with Barcelona following his loan deal.

Coutinho was creative all game with his passes and converted his penalty twice as the first conversion was pulled back by VAR for encroachment. He also becames just the 9th footballer to score goals in La Liga, Premier League, Serie A and the Bundesliga

For Koln they have a bit to do to escape the relegation zone. The way they conceded Lewandowski’s second leaving him open from a set-piece corner summed up their day.

For Bayern, they’ll be pleased how newcomers Coutinho and Perisic played. Next up for Munich is a road trip to newcomers Paderborn while Koln will take on Hertha Berlin at home.
