Player Profile: Rory Burns

in #sportstalk5 years ago

In every sport that is played, there are the more elderly players who are considered to be experienced in their trade and what they do. However, amid those elderly experienced players, other players are slowly building their career into a shape that they would know and love. This is the same with players who play cricket. To emphasize this point, today would be looking at a player who is new on the scene especially internationally but who has had a great time this year. That player is no other than Rory Burns.

What makes Burns a player to keep an eye on heading into the future and how has his career gone so far? Let’s find more about this player.

Who is Rory Burns?

Currently 29 years, Burns appears to be at the tip of greatness. He has had a very good year so far and would be looking to do even better before the year runs out. He plies his trade for Surrey and is considered to be a left-handed batsman. However, on rare occasions, he can also fit into the role of the wicket-keeper. This makes him a bit versatile for the club that he plays for. In 2018, Burns has risen through the ranks of Surrey and is now their captain. However, things were not always this way.

For some time, Burns would have thought that he was stuck playing for the second XI for his club Surrey. This was going after he had played spells in Hampshire where he also faced the same problem. However, in May 2011, he finally broke into the first-class team and would make his debut against Cambridge which was surely an important match for him. While it can be said that he had a great match, even more than the normal keepers that were Gary Wilson and Steven, he would no go on to feature in any match that season.

However, he was back among the team in 2012 when he went to hit his first century in the game against Leeds. As game time was tough, he would usually play in either his preferred role which was a batsman and the role of the wicket-keeper. However, he rose through the ranks in this Surrey team and became ever more important to them. This eventually led them to their first trophy since 2002. He had successfully led them a county championship.

International Scene

2018 would see him make massive improvements as he forced his way into the international team. He would go on to make his debut in the Test series when he played against Sri Lanka. In the ashes this year, he would go on to go a century in what was a cracking match.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that he could go on to achieve great things if he could just play more further. That is something that he would no doubt be looking to perfect right now. That could secure his future.
