Top posts in reddit.com/r/baseball for Mon Jul 3 2017
In a previous post, I started my first ever “What You’re Missing on reddit” series for reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive. Another one of my hobbies is baseball. I played it competitively through high school, I’ve been an umpire, and I love to follow it, especially from a statistical point of view on sites like fivethirtyeight.
That’s why I’ve been inspired to start a new reddit series for reddit.com/r/baseball.
One of the purposes for these series is to provide Steemians with quality content they might not see because they are now spending their time on steemit.com where they can actually make money creating and curating content, rather than reddit where the only ones making money are the owners of the site. Another reason is to show redditors that their posts could be making money if they instead created content on steemit. Hopefully we can convince some of those redditors to come over here and start making real money posting interesting content.
That said, welcome to the first edition of Top Ten Posts from r/Baseball!
1. Aaron Judge standing beside of Jose Altuve today. by @BurtMacklin316 9434 points
Aaron judge, the rookie outfielder for the NY Yankees, is 6’7”. In this photo he is standing next to Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, who at 5’6” is the shortest player in baseball.
2. Justin Verlander's streak of 331 appearances with a strikeout is over. by @Nippywinger 908 points
The flamethrower with the hot wife had quite a run. Gotta love this comment from @brappp428:
3. Matt Vasgersian appreciation thread. by @Blitz3989 828 points
It’s always nice to see someone who’s good at their job.
4. Chris Sale has already provided the value of his contract in terms of $/WAR by @SonSSBGoku 492 points
As insane as professional athletes' contracts are, Sale has, at half way through the season, already produced the value of his contract through the next two years. Sounds like my RedSox got a pretty good deal!
5. Zack Cozart has made the All-Star as the starting shortstop for the National League. Joey Votto owes him a donkey. by @twistedlogicx 496 points
Cozart’s teammate first baseman Joey Votto promised him a donkey if he made the All-Star game. Time to see if he delivers.
6. Report: MLB sends 30-team memo saying there is 'no evidence' baseballs are juiced by @rocksandfuns 417 points
The top comment (gaining 132 points) says it all:
Imagine if just a portion of r/baseball’s 479000 subscribers used steemit. Those 132 points for top comment could result in one of Steemit’s baseball enthusiasts getting paid!
What do you guys think, are the balls juiced?
7. Mookie Betts has recorded his 8th RBI in 7 innings vs. Toronto by @iMyth 405 points
8. Blue Jays pitcher Glenn Sparkman allows 6 ER on 7 hits in 0.1 innings, ends up with an ERA of 54.00. by @Smugleaf_Raptors2012 304 points
According to top comment (142 points) by @yoboapp, it got worse:
As a former pitcher @liljakeyplzandthnx, yes, that is bad. Very, very bad.
9. Barry Bonds averaged a .664 OBP with runners in scoring position over the last 6 years of his career, with a .754 OBP with runners in scoring position in 2004 by @The_Nats_Of_Us 286 points
Juiced or not, this man could hit. What do you guys think, does Bonds deserve a spot in the HOF(Hall of Fame)?
10. [Blue Jays] Justin Smoak extremely emotional when thanking the fans for his All-Star selection by @twistedlogicx 289 points
The twitter pic is actually a video of Smoak thanking the fans and, well, you should just watch it.
Anyway, these top 10 posts alone earned 13859 points! That doesn’t count any of the comments or the dozens of others posts on r/baseball! One user @twistedlogicx, who obviously has a flair for creating good content, had two posts in the top 10 for 785 points that he posted in the same hour! even just 10% of those votes would be 78 monetized votes here on steemit! This trending post about chocolate on steemit only has 52 votes and is earning $400 bucks!
Hopefully this post inspires you to keep on recruiting your friends and fellow enthusiasts on other platforms to come to Steemit and get paid for doing what they’re already doing!
Bonus post. The top voted post of all time on r/baseball:
That’s 68000 points! Even the top comment got 3129 points! Applying the 10% rule means 313 points, just for a comment! Top posts in ‘Trending’ don’t even always get 300 points!
Wow!
