A

Benfica 0-1 Manchester United

United profited from a goalkeeping howler to take the maximum points from their visit to Lisbon. Mile Svilar, who at 18 became the youngest goalkeeper to start a ECL match, gifted United all 3 points. Marcus Rashford saw Svilar off his line and put a deep cross in only for Svilar to carry the ball backwards over his line. It was one of many erratic moves by the Benfica youngster, and unfortunately for him, it will be a debut he will never forget. As a result, Benfica stay bottom of group with 0 points.

CSKA Moscow 0-2 Basel

Basel maintained their solid start to the campaign with an excellent win in Moscow. Xhaka put the Suisse in front in the first half. Oberlin made sure of the 3 points when he doubled the lead in injury time. It was a vital win for Basel as they move three points clear of 3rd place CSKA.

B

Bayern 3-0 Celtic

Jupp Heynckes’ first ECL game since coming back to Bayern saw them cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Glasgow Celtic. The Scottish side had no answer for Bayern’s silky skills as Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich put the Germans 2 up before half time. Hummels added a third for Bayern after the break to seal the win. The win puts Bayern 3 points in front of Celtic, who are 3rd on 3 points.

Action from Munich

Anderlecht 0-4 Paris SG

Paris solidified their belief that a first Champions League could be there’s after an emphatic 4-0 win in Belgium. Goals from Mbappe and Cavani put them 2 up at half time. Neymar and Di Maria ensured Paris’ 100% start to the campaign. The Frenchmen only need 1 point from their remaining 3 games to progress to the knockout stages. Anderlecht have 0 points and are heading towards elimination unless they do something drastic.

C

Chelsea 3-3 AS Roma

Chelsea and Roma played out a highly entertaining game at Stamford Bridge. David Luiz and Eden Hazard put Chelsea 2-0 up. Kolarov replied before half time to give the Italians hope. Then 2 goals from Dzeko put Roma in front 3-2, before Hazard got his second of the night. 3-3 was a fair result and it keeps Chelsea top of Group C. Roma are 2nd and are 3 points in front of 3rd place Atletico.

Eden Hazard makes it 3-3

Qarabag 0-0 Atletico Madrid

It was a night to forget for Diego Simeone’s men as all thei endeavor came to nothing in Baku. Even with all their possession they couldn’t break down Qarabag’s resilient defence. Antoine Griezman thought he had won it for Aletico but his goal was disallowed by the referee. Qarabag went down to 10 men late on but held out for their first point in Champions League football.

D

Barcelona 3-1 Olympiacos

Barcelona maintained their perfect record this season as they eased to a win at the Camp Nou. An own goal started the proceedings, and Barcelona barely had to get out of second gear as further goals from Messi and Digne, just after the hour gave the Catalonians a comfortable night. Olympiacos got a consolation in the last minute but that’s all it was. Barcelons remain top with 9 points. 3 clear of 2nd place Juventus.

Juventus 2-1 Sporting Lisbon

Juve lifted themselves into 2nd place with a win at home to Sporting, but not before a scare. Lisbon took the lead on 12 minutes through an own goal, and had further chances. The Italians were too strong on the night and their class finally shone. Goals from Pjanic and Mandzucic eased Juve into a 2-1 lead, which they comfortably held on to. Juve are now 3 points in front of 3rd place Sporting Lisbon.

Maribor 0-7 Liverpool

Liverpool put seven goals past Slovenian side Maribor in a club record away European win to claim their first win of the 2017-18 campaign. Goals from Firmino (2), Coutinho, Salah (2), Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexander-Arnold saw the Reds to a most comfortable of wins. For Maribor, it all but ended any hope they have of qualification for the next round.

Mohamed Salah scored 2 in Liverpool's emphatic win

Spartak Moskow 5-1 Sevilla

The surprise of the day was in Moscow as Spartak thrashed Spanish giants Sevilla. It was their first CL win for almost 5 years. Goals from Quincy Promes put the Russians in front before Simon Kjær equalized for Sevilla. 2nd half goals from Lorenzo Melgarejo, Denis Glushakov, Luiz Adriano and Promes again gave the Russians the a most impressive win. Spartak are now top of Group E with Liverpool, and Sevilla are a point behind with everything to play for.

Manchester City 2-1 Napoli

Pep Guardiola was highly impressed with his team’s performance against Napoli. Early goals from Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jeses put City firmly in the driving seat. Napoli fought back, however, and were awarded a penalty in the first half. Ederson saved it to maintain City’s lead. A second penalty, which was put away by Amadou Diawara, brought Napoli back into it, but City held on for a much deserved win.

Feyenoord 1-2 Shakhtar Donetsk

Feyenoord let a lead slip at home to Ukranians Shakhtar Donetsk. Bernard was the match winner with two goals for Shakhtar, and it leaves them within touching distance of Manchester City. For Feyenoord, who are appearing in their first ECL since 2002 and have now lost 3 out of 3, it was another harsh lesson in top tier European football.

Monaco 1-2 Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş maintained their impressive 100% record in this season’s ECL with a solid win at French outfit Monaco. Radamel Falcao put Monaco into the lead with a fine header, but the Turkish giants were soon level when Cenk Tosun equalized. Tosun scored again in the second half to clinch it for Beşiktaş and keep them in control of Group G.

A historic night for RB Leipzig as the earned their first ever ECL win

RB Leipzig 3-2 Porto

Leipzig won their first ever European match at home to Porto. All five goals were scored in a frantic first half. Orban put the home side in front after just 8 minutes, before Aboubakar equalized. Forsberg and Augustin put the Germans into a 3-1 before Ivan Marcano pulled one back. Porto pressuered Leizig but couldn’t break the door down and the German minnows held on for a historic win.

Real Madrid 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham came away from the Bernabeau with a respectable point. Ronaldo almost put Madrid in front when he hit the post, but it wasn’t to be. Tottenham did score as a dangerous ball from the right caused havoc in Real’s defence, and Rafael Varane put the ball into his own net to give Spurs the lead. Ronaldo did eventually score from the penalty spot to equalize for Madrid. Real then plied the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but Hugo Lloris performed miracles in goal for the Londoners to give them a deserved point.

APOEL 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund have given themselves a mountain to climb with a very disappointing result at APOEL. The Cypriots were under pressure for most of the game but it was they who took the lead. Mickael Poté gave APOEL hope but not for long. Sokratis Papastathopoulos equalised just a few minutes later and the Germans then went in search of their first ECL win this season, but Kagawa and Aubameyang hit the bar and post as the German giants left Cyprus frustrated.

Thanks for the summary, not sure why the last 3 groups rankings are missing though :D

Hey, sorry about that, it must have been a typo as I put them in. It'll be sorted next time!
Upvoted for your diligence.

Vote for Manchester City to win the UCL... ^^

They have a very good chance but my money is on Barcelona.

UCL this time is very exciting... Many great team will compete... Lets hope for Barca and ManCity to meet in Final... ^^

probably the best two teams at the moment. But it's only October.

Thank you. Follow me @mojorisin for more excellent posts.

No worries. Glad you enjoyed it. @mohorisin

the big contenders this season are manchester city, manchester united , PSG and barcelona, atleast this teams are showing consistency in the UCL and their home leagues

I'm not so sure Man U are a big contender. They're very good but I don't think they're at the top table this season.

In my opinion, too early to mention MU has returned to the track as coached Sir Alex Ferguson. So far, MU has not faced a match opponent at UCL. Last week, when dealing with Chelsea in the domestic league, only luck kept them out of defeat. However, I still hope MU will qualify from Group A and even become group winners. Thanks so much @steemsports.

I agree. They're much better than last season but still a way off the top teams in Europe.

We wait and see if they (MU) will remain stable in the path of victory, especially after escaping from the group phase later. Thanks so much @mojorisin.

Goals goals and even more goals. This was a great week of Champions league and well done to Liverpool for that historic win. I am actually enjoying the Champions League more this season being i am a neutral since Arsenal are out. Still sad though hahaha.

It has been unbelievable this week. So many goals! Arsenal for the Europa Cup?

Yeah hopefully we can win it. Because at the moment i don't think we will be able to reach top 4. The team doesn't seem to have any chemistry going forward into the season league wise.

Yeah, I agree. I think it's time for Arsene to step aside, too.
As for the Europa Cup, I remember when all European trophies were taken seriously, and it's time UEFA did something to revamp th Europa Cup because some big teams field weakened teams, when winning it should be an aim for everyone.

Yeah... I agree that it's time for Arsene to step aside...

Messi is a beast right now in la liga, argentina and ucl

Best player in the world, bar none.
