Barca sign Frankie De Jong for $86m, will join in the coming summer.

Frenkie De Jong signs for Barcelona exactly thirty years after the club signed Ronald Koeman in 1989.

What a coincidence!
After the not so interesting and completely out of sort signing of Kevin Prince Barca has struck gold taking Frankie out of the cusps of Man City ,PSG and so many other clubs and thus continuing the Barca ,Ajax connection.

Where to even start with Frenkie De Jong joining Barcelona, but praising the massive turnaround by the board. PSG had signed him by all means by December per reports, Barça managed to strike a deal with the player, compromise with the agent and pay Ajax whatever they wanted. It’s an overwhelming €86m fee, but it’s the player Barcelona needed and the man the fans wanted.

What’s more important than these two things? Nothing.

Let’s start with the worries with Frenkie, for they are little: If Valverde stays, can he properly adapt such a tricky player as starter?

Secondly, will Frenkie will compromise with his work rate off the ball accordingly? Or will that be left to Vidal and others?That said, I have no doubt De Jong will be a massive success at Barcelona.

The term “Barça DNA” has been ridiculed since Fàbregas, but we can use it seriously for the Dutchman’s style of play.

Where/How will De Jong play for Barcelona? I can see him performing many roles for the club, but I reckon his main position will be playing closer to Busquets, dropping deep to drive the ball forward, starting attacks.

We could also see De Jong performing a role similar to Iniesta’s, holding the ball whenever necessary, making sharp passes forward and also contributing defensively.If I am to be completely sincere, it’s still hard to have a clear picture of how Frenkie will play for Barcelona. He can be used in many ways, most importantly he’s home now, rest comes later!

The board has shown good intent by making this signing. It was more of a statement to other clubs that Barca power still holds strong.Now are probably waiting for Mathais de ligt and one very good Stricker to give good cover for Suarez and probably takeover the when decides to bid goodbye.
