Speaking of tennis balls, I'm curious about the origins of the use of the word "love" for the score of zero in a tennis match, as well as the way points are counted.
Comes from the French language. The word for "egg", which looks like a zero is "l'œuf", pronounced very similarly to our word for love.
Similar to calling zero a "goose-egg".
Great question!
