GSP VS Michael Bisping, Who Has the Advantage?

in #sports7 years ago

GSP, the pride of Canada, is returning to the UFC, and this time, fighting for the Middleweight Title.

Already the greatest Welterweight of all time, GSP has everything to lose by coming back. That is why it is logical for him to fight for the Middleweight Title instead.

This way, even if he loses, his legacy in the Welterweight remains intact, and his fans can always point to the fact that he fought a bigger fighter.

But is GSP really at an disadvantage fighting Michael Bisping?

DISCLAIMER: The following analysis will be extreme biased because I am a Canadian and a GSP fan, so just take it as my personal opinion. Be sure to disagree respectfully :)

Granted, Michael Bisping is the bigger of the 2. Towering over GSP with his 6 foot 1 frame versus GSP's 5 foot 10.

Bisping also fought at Lightheavy Weight in the beginning of his career and actually dropped down to the 185lb division.

But despite being taller, the reach of Bisping and GSP both measured at about 76 inches.

So there is no advantage for Bisping in this department despite being the taller of the two.

Moreover, if you take a close look at GSP's record, he has already fought a few opponents with Middleweight experience and dominated them.

Notably: Nick Diaz and Jake Shields. Jake Shields was actually a one time Middleweight title holder of the now defunct Strikeforce organization.

Another advantage that GSP has over Bisping is his training camp.

It is well known that GSP trains out of TriStar Gym in Montreal under the brilliant coaching of Firaz Zahabi, but not everyone knows that Zahabi studies under one of the greatest minds in martial arts today, John Danaher.

John Danaher (Follow him on Facebook for some incredible insights https://www.facebook.com/john.danaher.96), has been revolutionizing the Jiu-jitsu world in the last few years, churning out a new generation of jiu-jitsu champions such as Gary Tonon, Eddie Cummings, and Gordon Ryan.

Danaher has also been an integral part of GSP's success from very early on.

When you surround yourself with the best in the business, the likelihood of success is pretty high.

Of course, a fight is a fight and anything can happen

Bisping has being a great champion, and the way he won the title against Luke Rockhold showed true martial art spirit so I have nothing but respect for him.

But given the great minds surrounding GSP, I am pretty confident that they have devised the perfect game plan.

And GSP will execute the game plan flawlessly.

Again, just my personal opinion and I am biased. Please let me know your thoughts. Who you got? And why?

either way, the fans are the real winners here.

Sort:

These fighter should concentrate on having to knock out their opponent with powerful punches because as a fan that is what I am longing for to see although I am not watch UFC much.

yeah for sure, but with GSP, you will most likely get disappointed. He will most likely employ a wrestling heavy approach to control Bisping for 5 rounds.
