Kai Lenny and Friends at Foilsurfing Ho'okipa
You never know who or what you will see when you swing by Ho'okipa Beach. After work Cristina and I swung by the beach before heading to Cross country practice in Kihei. To our surprise we saw Kai Lenny, one of the most talented waterman, hanging out with some of his friends. The surf was small, with one or two surfers out in front of the southern lifeguard station.
The crew had their foilboards for the small action of one to two feet. Foil boarding is a growing water sport on the island with Kai leading the way. He has been doing it for a while and may be one of the more experienced foilboarder over the water.
Despite the danger the crew was all smile and ready for more action. This is a sport that I am getting into and always use these occasions to see what some of the best in the sport are doing. We have also watched Kai surf monster waves at Jaws. Soon I will be publishing a video of him doing some amazing kiteboarding stunts. Below is a video of the Kai Lenny at Jaws.
Aloha from Maui.
That was awesome thanks for uploading. I imagine foil boarding will be the next big thing as it becomes more accessible. We need to go practice!
Practice and practice - but boy those guys were all smiles on some small waves.
Ah, memories surfing at Ho'okipa. Love it there. So hard to watch this living in east side of Big Island, where the surf isn't as great as it is on Maui haha
It is amazing that the Big Island has so much mass, but very few breaks that I know of. Ho'okipa is a fun spot and it seems like someone is always surfing. Aloha
Yes, I believe the lack of good surf breaks on Big Island is because the shelf break-off is quite steep, instead of those gently sloping reefs that the other Hawaii islands have. It is what it is ... and I make the best of being on Big Island for now haha.
aloha! never been to Maui but I would love to visit someday. keep surfing!
good post visit my post man
Fantastic videos! It must have been awesome to see him in person.
Very beautiful beach and the surfing was great.... love it.... Aloha! Temple
