What is pinball?

The pinball, pinball, flasks, ball, ball or milloncete is a mechanical, electromechanical or electronic ballroom game based on a ball driven by a spring that runs along a board with various designs ornamented with various electronic components whose contact with the ball grants certain score to the player, the ball is re-projected inside the board by some paddles or flippers. It was a very popular youth game between the 1960s and 1970s in taverns, clubs, ice cream parlors and in casinos in various parts of the world and today their machines are part of collectors of these salon games.

History

The origin of pinball dates back to the 18th century, in France, with a fairly rudimentary game called Bagatelle, very famous in the Europe of those times. This game consisted of a horizontal aiming board, mounted on a table, which had a series of holes and wooden stops, which determined the course of a ball.

In the mid-nineteenth century in the United States, the wooden bumpers of the Bagatelle were replaced by metal nails, which gave it the name of pinball, a name that is also known in Latin America. They are also called "games of little machines", "little machines" or flippers. In Spain they are called petacos or milloncete.

Between 1930 and 1940 two Automatic Industries engineers, Arthur Paulin Whiffle and David Gottlieb, began to give the game its modern appearance, placing it in a wooden box with glass screen and providing it with hidden mechanisms that allowed the player more fun.1 In 1932, another engineer, Harry Williams, invented an electroimated coil system called Tilt (missing) that allowed denouncing the fraudulent player who wanted to collect prizes by subtly moving the game table.

Subsequently, between 1940 and 1950, the machines sold money when the player achieved a certain score, and associated them with gangster-controlled bars, and at some point they were declared illegal along with the slots, until 1967 in the United States.

With the ban repealed, Williams Manufacturing Company 2 wasted no time and quickly Williams machines won the lost ground, reaching in the late 70s and especially in the 80s to be youth entertainment machines.
