WORLD CUP QUALIFIER - SYRIA V AUSTRALIA

Fox Sports Australia

GOOD EVENING STEEMIT!

No markets oriented post tonight, my mind is currently elsewhere.

Tonight the Australian national football team, the Socceroos, play the first leg of the Asian playoff against Syria in order to qualify for the 2018 Russian World Cup.

Syria you ask? The war torn country engulfed in civil war and overrun by Islamic State? What the hell is Australia doing scratching around for scraps via the playoff route with them?!

Yes, we're asking the same questions and quite frankly, it isn't good enough. Our football community in this country deserves better and IF we scrape through, some serious issues like stubbornly playing a certain style rather than focusing on World Cup qualification, need to be addressed.

Syria v Australia

As I said in the opening paragraph, tonight Australia play Syria in the first leg of the Asia playoff.

Thankfully FIFA did something even half intelligent and have not allowed Syria to play their home matches in Damascus, instead choosing to base themselves in Melaka, Malaysia.

There is a second leg in Sydney next Tuesday night but the boys will want to ease some of the pressure and come away with a result away from home.

Syria are not a bad side and we know how tough even the relatively lesser sides are to break down when they sit 11 behind the ball and play on the break. Something we have to be aware of.

Here are some paraphrased points from the Socceroos official website:

  • Australia has never faced Syria at national team level before.
  • This is the first leg of a two legged tie with the winner on aggregate going through to an intercontinental playoff (again home and away) against the fourth placed side in the CONCACAF region.
  • Fourth place is currently the USA, but Panama or Honduras more likely opponents once they finish their matches.

Let's just get through tonight first... Let's not put the cart before the horse, or so they say!

If I Managed Australia

I am frustrated out of my mind that Ange has been too stubborn to change from his dreaded 3 at the back, high tempo passing system no matter the situation or opponent.

But he's not going to change it now so that's what we're stuck with.

I simply can't get my head around the non-selections of both Jedinak and Gersbach. Jedinak because he is our skipper and one of the most experienced heads who will take zero shit, and Gersbach because he is head and shoulders above the rest of our fullback stocks when it comes to talent and performance. Ridiculous that they've been overlooked injury comeback or not.

So this is what I want:

-----------------------Ryan
---------Jurman---Sainsbury---Degenek
---------------Millian------Mooy
----------------------Luongo
Smith----------------Rogic------------------Leckie
------------------------Juric

Cahill for Juric
Irvine for Luongo
Take your pick elsewhere.

We have the talent to do it, but do we have the execution on the night.

Just get it done.

Here's an Aussie Dollar chart, not for any particular technical reason, but just simply because my blog is @forexbrokr and I don't think I should be just writing a football focused blog haha.

AUD/USD Daily

Please leave a comment and tell me what I should have been making money trading, while I was off at a mate's place sinking a few quiet beverages and yelling to the football gods to please allow us to qualify for the next World Cup!

Enjoy your evening and COME ON AUSTRALIA. Get it done lads.

Peace.

I think Australia have more chance to win today. What do u say???

Bit hard when you have the referee giving penalties for that rubbish...

I will be watching tonight but I just heard on the news that Ange will be resting players so that they are fresh for the second leg. Never a good idea in my mind, however let's see if they can finish all the chances they should have.

We underestimate what it's like to play in the heat and humidity of Asia. I don't really have a problem with him resting players, but now it's all on the line in Sydney!

very good post very like ngen your post this hopefully aja posting this so benefits all its thanks
