This is a combined results post for the weekly contests covering The Honda Classic and the Daytona 500.

Thanks to everyone who supported and participated in the two contests! As stated in my announcement post, these contests will be used to supply a portion of revenue for the Fantasy Sports Development Fund. If you enjoy sports and would like to see the sports community grow and flourish, please be sure to share these posts and invite any sports fans – friends or family – to Steemit!

Steemit Scramble Results – The Honda Classic

Rickie Fowler took home the win this year, shooting 12 under par (-12) for the tournament. He beat the second place finishers by four strokes and moved up 48 spots to 10th place in the Fed Ex Cup standings. This was Fowler’s third top-10 finish and his first win of the season. The defending champion of The Honda Classic, Adam Scott, finished tied for 14th place at -4.

These are the results of this week’s Steemit Scramble:

The 2x multiplier this week was the total number of eagles scored during the tournament, which was 35. The closest to that total was @hanshotfirst, who guessed 33. He was able to double his points from 2 to 4 for the week.

The total pot for the weekly contest was 221 STEEM. The first place contestant received 110.50 STEEM and the 2nd place contestants each received 22.10 STEEM. Here is the proof of payout:

Please keep in mind that all points will accumulate for the monthly and season-long contests. Here are the current month’s leaders for the first monthly contest, which will run through the end of March:

STEEM Cup Series Results – The Daytona 500

It was another great finish at the Daytona 500, with Kurt Busch grabbing the lead and the victory in the last lap of the race. It was the only lap that Busch led over the entire 500 miles. In fact, the top five finishers only led for a total of seven laps combined throughout the race. This was the first win for Kurt Busch at the Daytona 500.

Many drivers were lost due to accidents after the halfway point in the race, including the 7-time defending Series champion, Jimmie Johnson, and the perennial crowd favorite, Dale Earnhardt Jr. The defending champion of the Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin, finished in 17th place.

Rule/Distribution Changes Starting This Week

To help prevent coattail riding, I will be implementing the following rule change to both contests:

Unique golfer/driver selections will earn contestants an additional 5-point bonus per contest. Points for the Steemit Scramble will be added to point totals AFTER the multiplier has been calculated. If two or more contestants choose the same golfers/drivers for the contests, then the contestant who entered their selections first will receive the bonus.

To help with funding for the fantasy sports project, I will be implementing the following changes to distributions for both contests:

Weekly contest payouts will be reduced from 40% to 35% of earnings.
Development funding will increase from 15% to 20% of earnings.

Thanks again to all supporters and contestants! The next Steemit Scramble post will be published tomorrow and the next STEEM Cup Series post will be published on Friday!

Special thanks to @blocktrades for supporting and sponsoring this Steemit community event!

Nice post but there is a bit of a quirk in the system that when whales vote too much on one post, the rewards are blown up out disproportionately, starving out many other posts. I disagree that this is a positive for Steem. For that reason, I'm downvoting it but please don't take this as personal criticism or criticism of your post, it isn't that.

Obviously, I used the text from Smooth's post here, because I really like his new wording. :)

I like the posts, and I think others do as well. My vote isn't worth much either. So, it really won't matter.
Although, I think you are adding great value to Steem I don't care for the whale pile on voting either. (I really do like the posts, and I am only doing this in the name of fairness. I think you might be someone who can handle it. ;)

OK. Cool. But I might write eleventy-four posts about how you're such a big bully! Fair enough?

I think that would be great. :) Truly grinning.

See, just when I think I'm starting to understand where @smooth comes from, he goes and upvotes the same users as usual. Doesn't like it when others with his power do it but piles on with other whales onto his regulars.

I don't think that's fair, he's given back to this platform more than most in his position.

Who? And in what position?

Smooth as witness

If I give a homeless guy some change will you please not hold me accountable for kicking his dog?

What do you mean?

OK, if I get a cake for you and your family, will you just pretend you didn't see me stealing it from an autistic childs birthday party?

Pretty please... There's a chance I can get you a really big upvote for your loyalty 🍩

Flagged for over-rewarding.

Flagged for basically being a hypocrite, a liar, a scam artist, and for threatening people with physical violence. If you don't like, you can ask your millionaire friends to buy you some more STEEM Power.

ahh, so this is one of your new accounts @nextgencrypto. Hello, Hello. :)

Excellent. I'm glad you guys are warming up to the "flagging for over-rewarding" idea. I thought that we would be seeing endless posts about how evil and unfair it is. Didn't take long for you to change your minds, it seems.

In any case - being flagged sure beats being threatened with physical harm. Amirite?

Well, when there is only about $7,000 per day in rewards for everybody, then $100 is a bit much considering all the other posts+comments.

I cannot recall that you or any others have been threatened with physical harm @ats-david. There have been vocal disputes and some times over the edge, no reason to be afraid.

Would be great if we could let things in the past and start things a new.

@steemspeak is not a "safe place" but it is a real place and things are being debated hardcore in there until a friendly end-result comes out of whatever it is that people bring up.

Would be awesome if @smooth and @krnel and the rest of the top-accounts would join https://discord.gg/sqxV63P and talk things to a conclusion. Create a non-destructive culture and start working for a better tomorrow. Amirite?

Upvoted without really reading. For completely arbitrary reasons that are my own.

Awesome. Thanks!

I was very surprised when I saw the transfer in my wallet. Thanks @ats-david, big fan of these contests.

Thanks for playing! You're off to a really good start!

Thanks for the steem @ats-david. I've been a long time fan and participant of your competitions. First time winner. :)

You're welcome and I appreciate the support. You're doing pretty well so far with NASCAR. Maybe football just wasn't your thing? :)

Flagged for over-rewarding.

Damn it, gotta step my game up!

Seriously...you laid an egg! Maybe you'll have better luck this week.

Thanks @ats-david! I didn't get an entry in for this golf scramble in time.
How about next week? I want to get an early start to avoid missing another week.

I will have the weekly Steemit Scramble posted tomorrow. Probably in the afternoon.

Thanks!! And thanks for running this golf contest, I love it!

No problem. I'm glad you like it. I'll continue trying to improve it as the season goes on.

Here's this week's contest, in case you missed it. Cut-off time for your selections is 12:03pm EST on Thursday.

Thanks @ats-david! I won't miss this one! Fowler was awesome last week!

it would be great!

5 bonus points seems like too much to me. If I see your golf post right away, I pick the top 3 golfers that week, and I get 15 bonus points since no one else has picked them yet. Is that right, or did I misunderstand?

No, the bonus is applied as a total, not for each golfer. If you were to pick Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, and Adam Scott, and nobody else has chosen those golfers yet, then you would receive five additional points after the point totals have been calculated with the multiplier.

This is designed to prevent multiple contestants from choosing the same golfers and ending up with 5-way ties for any given place.

From the example golfers above...

If someone else chose those golfers, then you could still choose Fowler, Watson, and then add Jordan Spieth instead of Scott. If nobody else had that combination, you would receive the bonus. Likewise, you could swap out Fowler for Justin Rose, or swap Watson for Rory McIlroy.

The 5-point bonus should likely offset any possible losses from not being able to choose a particular golfer. Picking the winner is the biggest advantage for contestants right now. It's proving to be quite difficult to choose more than one golfer in the top-10. But as the season progresses, we'll have more data to examine. Keep in mind that this is largely experimental at this point.
