Liverpool FC – Season Overview and Awaiting the Champions League Finals

in #sport6 years ago

Many championships across Europe have already been completed and most of the players eagerly await the start of the football World Cup. To my great joy, ahead of Liverpool players is the most important match of the season - the Champions League finals.
Before I take a look at this match, I would like to write a brief overview of the recently finished season in the Premier League.

Fourth place is not something to be proud of for a team who couldn’t win the league title for more than two and a half decades. But with regards to playing on the 2 fronts and a huge success in the Champions league, this is probably the maximum that could be reached.

The second most effective attack in the league with more than 2.2 goals per match confirms the fact I wrote before the start of the season - Liverpool has one of the best attacking lines in England and Europe. Also, out of over 90 professional teams in England, only one team finished the season without a defeat at home – guess who?

Although we lost Coutinho in the middle of the season, who left to Barcelona with a record sale, as well as the departure of Daniel Sturridge, who frankly, did not have significant impact to our game, their absence in the attack was not felt.
On the contrary, winning percentage increased from 55.3% to 66.7% in the second half of the season. One of the reasons related to that fact is certainly improved defense, primarily by bringing Virgil Van Dijk with a record transfer fee when it comes to defenders. In addition, the big influence had a change on the goal line, Karius really had a good season and added more security in the defense in relation to Mignolet.

When we talk about players, certainly the strongest impression this season has left Mohamed Salah. With 32 goals, he managed to set a record in a 38-match Premier League season. The previous record holders were Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez with 31 goals.
Recently, Michael Owen, my childhood hero, probably in the best way described the game of Mohamed Salah this season:

That said, he is beginning to make me and the likes of Robbie Fowler, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez look average.

Besides Salah, there are a few other players who pleasantly surprised me with their games in a red shirt.
First of all, I want to mention Trent Alexander Arnold, who has stepped into the place of Nathaniel Clyne who had to miss most of the season because of a serious injury. The young scouser with a big heart was more than an excellent replacement, I expect him to be the next LFC captain.
Andy Robertson, seamlessly arrived from Hull City, but became really important player in the defensive line and slowly grows into a quality left back.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - I did not have a good opinion when it comes to his football qualities during his time in Arsenal, but he proved me wrong and brought extra quality in the Liverpool attacking line.

Champions League Finals

One more day left before the big final in Kiev. I remember the feeling from 2005 and 2007 when we met in the finals with the glorious generation of the AC Milan team. It’s the same situation now, when we are expecting the toughest possible opponent in the finals, Real Madrid. This is their third final in a row and they will certainly be favorites in this game, not only because of the quality they possess but the experience they have in playing big games.

I won’t go too much into the prediction of the lineups that will confront the "kings" from Madrid at the Olympic Stadium, I will leave it to Klopp, and I'm not going to predict the result. Where do I see our chance in tomorrow's game? First of all, I think the key is in a strong pressing on the insecure defensive line of Real Madrid, with a lot of running and hard tempo. A lot of times we managed to defeat teams which were favorites on the paper, in this way. Simply, it's Liverpool's style for years, from the time of Brendan Rodgers, and with the arrival of Klopp it just has been improved.

I can’t remember the exact moment, but my love for Liverpool started back in 1998-1999. And the reasons for this were unexplainable, as with any love. In Serbia, it is assumed that you are a fan of either the Red Star or Partizan. Love for a foreign club was all the more odd because it gives you the right of the choice. I do not know what prevailed in my case. Maybe the glorious history, the tragedies of Heysel and Hillsborough, the great names that played for our team, scouser's character, that song, the most famous anthem in the world ...

Liverpool is unpredictable and as much as it brings you joy, they can also betray or disappoint you...
I can imagine picture of tomorrow's match in front of my eyes, I see how Lovren slips and allows Ronaldo to break himself out in front of a helpless Karius and score, and how Firmino misses a clean shot before the end of the first half. And I know that my soul and heart will hurt when the judge blows the final whistle, and we hear from the stands how we walk together, only that the song will be consolation and not triumphal one.

But, what if it's going to be different ...

In the end, I would like to finish with Steven Gerrard's message to the players before tomorrow's finals, because nobody knows better than him how to become a champion from the underdog.

These players have an opportunity to not just change their careers but their lives in general. They are the moments that you dream of.
My message to the players would be: go and grasp it, go and seize the moment you have worked so hard for. Go and reward yourselves for the journey you have taken this club on.
You’ve got to go in with the belief and confidence; you have come this far. You’ve got to handle the responsibility of being a Liverpool player and you’ve got to go and deliver.
You’ll get plaudits and praise for getting where you are but not many people remember it if you don’t get over the line and deliver.
I’m still really good friends with ex-teammates in that team that I played with and I know what it would mean for them. I just hope they go and do it.

And my message to the LFC players:
You know how to become a real champion? By going to the field when it's hardest ... and you win.

Good luck, Liverpool are in with great chance if they can sort out the defence which was jittery against Roma in the second leg of the semi final

Yeah, that was a tough one! Thanks!

Hola a todos. El partido estaba de lo mejor hasta que Ramos decidio realizar su jugada de cobardia.
