Is Messi overrated?
Once again Messi was a failure in the World Cup. All around the world his supporters were waiting for him to make the difference but that didn't happen.
Is Messi the best player ever?
Of course not and if you believe that, you are either in love with him or you don't know this sport at all. He is not even close to players like Maradona or Pele. Diego Armando he not only won a World Cup playing in such an amazing way but he also made history in Italy when he won Serie A with Napoli, a team who had never won before and never won again after him. Those are the achievements of a great player.
Is Messi the greatest player of the last 25 years or at least of his generation?
I'm sorry Messi's fans but the answer is no again and I don't even think he should be in that conversation. Great players are talented like Messi but also perform when most needed and Messi never did. Easy to win the Champions League or La Liga when you play with one of the best teams in the world and actually even then he didn't perform that well in so many important matches. Truth is he is just very weak mentally that's why he always disappointed. He had many chances to prove himself and he always failed, he has never won a trophy with Argentina, not even Copa America...GREAT players WIN.
So who is better than him in this last 25 years? Oh my God so many players: Zidane, C. Ronaldo, Buffon, Ronaldo, Cannavaro, Totti, Pirlo, Ibrahimović, Henry, Iniesta, Xavi, Nedved, Roberto Carlos and I'm sure I missed some other players...
His legacy?
He'll be remembered as one of those very talented players who were never able to win big and not because he was unlucky but because he choked under pressure. Baggio comes to mind when speaking of bad luck, played great in 1994 World Cup but got to the final match half injured and half destroyed for having to carry the team on his own...Messi, bad luck doesn't apply to you, you had all the chances in the world...
I don't hate Messi, I'm actually a fan, I've been following his career since he was 16 and I really believed that this time he would have finally proven how great he is but that sadly didn't happen.

The german team has been weaseling itself through over the last couple years more than anything.
It was about time that it bites us and I am glad that it did happen now the way it did. Hopefully, the lecture will sting and stick so that we can improve on that,
Germany usually does pretty well so it had to happen right
Thats the thing, I do not even think that they were ever really doing so well. Watching germany play always feels like doing just the bare minimum in order to squeeze through.
True but hey at end of the day the result is what really counts.
Nice read. I leave an upvote for this article thumbsup
