Aaron Jordan is looking for a fresh start at Shorter University after an uphill climb since high school ball.
Hailing from the inner city of Atlanta, Georgia, Jordan started playing football when he was six years old and the love of the game has kept his drive ever since. He attended Douglass High School where he was a standout Defensive Back, starting his first three years and a team Captain his last two, accumulating 115 tackles, 1 interception, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 defensive touchdowns. After transferring to Mays High School his senior season, he was unfortunately unable to play due to transfer rules and decided it was best to play at Georgia Prep Sports Academy where he won the starting job and racked up 35 tackles, 1 interception, and 4 pass deflections. After short stints with JUCO programs at Foothill Junior College and Georgia Military College, he found his way to Shorter University.
Shorter University, a Division 2 program in Rome, Georgia, has had a rough couple of years, going 0-11 last season and an overall of 7-36 since 2013. Jordan plans on helping turn the program around over the next four years, as he feels it is a brand new team with the incoming freshman and transfers. “I believe we can turn things around at Shorter University. Playing in the Gulf South Conference is like the Division 2 version of the SEC. We just have to work one day at a time and trust the process,” said Jordan.
Jordan will be playing Cornerback, Nickel, and Safety for the Hawks at 5’10” and 175 pounds. As a long and lean Defensive Back, he can jam the Receivers at the line since the length of his arms are an advantage going up against Wide Receivers with great height. His tape shows he can jump with anyone on the field, including bigger Tight Ends. “I am an Athlete. I can play all over the field just like Tyrann Mathieu,” said Jordan. He can also contribute on Special Teams, especially in the kick return game where he can use his speed, quickness, and agility as a threat.
Shorter’s summer camp begins on August 6th and Jordan is looking forward to the competition. “I Love to compete. I sat out last season, so I am ready to get back on the field and get my feet wet,” said Jordan. Being the best he can be on and off the field is the ultimate goal, so he is willing to do whatever the coaches need him to do in order to win ball games.
